If the mammoth formally known as the Sears building can be renovation into Crosstown Concourse, then the Sterick can definitely have life tapped back into it.

That's probably the most impressive renovation I've seen in Memphis ever, and it's not done. That place was just a dream of what it is now, crazy to see it come into life.

Bout time they started on the cobblestones. That's been in the works for at least 7 years.

They're really quite different. Crosstown offers on site parking, flexible floor plans, flexible floor to ceiling heights, close to unlimited space for construction staging and enough space to house multiple uses as they currently are.

Sterick doesn't offer any of that. Designated parking is a must for residential downtown and almost a must for hotel space. If the Sterick is rehabilitated and redeveloped, which I think it will, it will be into hotel space with maybe some residential.

I think it has certainly set a precedent for the adaptive reuse of historic buildings in Memphis. I think many local businesses and hopefully the City will begin to take a no excuse outlook; citizens certainly have.

DRG901 Aug 6, 2016 10:52 PM

Totally agree on everything said above about the Sterick eventually seeing new life and Crosstown making people notice things like this can be done. Also the TN Brewery being redeveloped is awesome and that's something many didn't think would happen as it was on the verge of being demolished. Add in Peabody Place, the Chisca and even the success of Overton Square and of course the Pyramid we've been on a roll the past few years of bringing life to old empty structures around downtown and midtown. Now for 100 N Main...

Trevor Birchett Aug 6, 2016 11:38 PM

On the note of Peabody Place, the new paint color looks amazing. If you haven't been over there in a while, swing by...the new paint is almost done. Totally brought it from late 90s/early 2000s right up to 2016. Looks brand new.

Southwest added daily nonstops to MCO for next March but curiously there are some days two weeks into April with 3x daily to MCO. So, there may be more longevity to those adds than in the past. Hopefully thru the summer. Heck I saw a couple of days with the classic one stop, same plane MEM to MCO service that Southwest was famous for, another quasi nonstop making it 4 flights without a plane change on some days.

If only they's give us a daily LAS flight.

One Beale:
Yes, you read right. There are workers at the site doing what appears to be very minor groundwork. It's a promising sign.

Thanks for the updates. The last times I've paid attention at the One Beale site I don't even think they had a fence up or I didn't notice. So workers out doing anything is hopefully a sign of progress.

They're taking soil samples for structural design.

Belz pursues new mixed-use near Orpheum, Beale St by Michelle Corbet- Memphis Business Journal.

I wonder what this will consist of? Hopefully something with height

TheKernel91 Aug 11, 2016 12:09 AM

^^^^ Me too. That area could use some height. Atleast 12-15 stories. I really want that parking lot next to it near Front St. to get infilled as well. It would complete the area (besides MLGW)

So what's the concensus on the Wiseacre/MSC proposal?

I'd like to see more plans of their resuse with adding the bowling alley and stuff in addition to the brewery.

I like the idea. I know a lot of people want the Coliseum as an arena again but I don't know if there's any way to make that possible without city money. Plus there's no guarantee how it would do (the arena in Southaven that everyone says is taking acts away from the city isn't going to go away) and this is actually a plan that can have draws year round and could really compliment Tiger Lane on game days. Not sure many other college teams can say they have a brewery practically on their stadium property.

City should concentrate on making the Mud Island Amp a superior experience to Snowden.

I don't think this alone is the answer. I wish there were more pieces to the puzzle. My main gripe about the Liberty Bowl and that it's an island not close to lodging, dining, hell anything. It's why I've harped on a new downtown stadium/convention combo adjacent to Beale to create synergy complete with tailgating areas in neighboring park land.
