Does anyone here know if the Coronado Bridge Lighting Project is still alive? Have not heard a peep about it for awhile now.I know a lot of projects go dark for a bit before we hear they are a go so not sure if this one is still in a process.

SD kinda dead lately. Nothing going on, was hoping some news about a replacement developer for 7th/Market would pop up. Nothing about Padres developing that massive lot east of Petco and no ground breaking on that huge triangular shaped lot in Skid row that had a proposal on it. At least all the tent people are gone from that whole area has anyone else noticed that?
General Commentary: It has been nearly 6 years since the SDSU vs. Soccer City vote. If Soccer City had won would we see more than just a stadium sitting on that land. I figured that tons of housing and campus expansion space would be happening there by now. What do you guys think? |

Also general commentary, why doesn't San Diego have its own proper P&C sub-forum like LA and Portland with dedicated threads for individual projects? Seems weird to only have a single thread for all of the numerous major construction projects happening in one of the country's largest cities. |

SF on the other hand does have multiple active threads for updates on individual projects. To a lesser extent, Oakland as well. Berkeley, San Jose, metro Bay Area, and Sacramento have just one general project thread each. |

Riverwalk is interesting. I feel like they were focused more on key infrastructure elements first before vertical construction begins. You are correct though, no news has come since last September. I wonder if it's a financing or market issue. I will say that overall, we are seeing a significant uptick in permit applications for North Park, Uptown, and even Golden Hill/South Park. Lots of 7-8 story proposals, and even some towers. And with the city's recent reforms, some of these projects may even be withdraw and resubmitted to achieve even higher densities. Whether any of these pencil in the near term is a big question, but developers are getting ready for the next construction boom by lining up permits now. |
Here is an example of a Hillcrest project that's taking advantage of the city's recent housing reforms:

I agree that SD development isn't dead, but looking at other cities around North America, I can see how it feels that way. Austin and Miami are booming, and Seattle has built a lot in the last decade.
I saw on reddit the other day all the proposals popping up in Kelowna, British Columbia (a small city in the middle of nowhere), and their list of projects looks comparable to downtown San Diego's. |

My company has maintained our corporate headquarters in San Diego for 32 years (Carmel Valley area), with smaller offices in LA and Fremont. We have roughly 4,400 employees. Our Board just made the decision to move our three offices to one tower in Dallas - the two main expressed reasons: 1) cost of doing business in CA, 2) cost of housing. Sad to be leaving CA! We all have to be moved by August 1st or lose our jobs. :(
