Alex Decoteau Park - 105st / 102ave
I thought some of you might be interested to know that the City purchased 'the Scott property' a couple of years ago and we (the downtown community league et al) have started working on some initial planning and ideas for the site. This is very exciting and could make that corner a new destination for the community and downtown workers.
Please post some thoughts as to what you might like to see there or pictures that illustrate the same. What do you want to see, what should be incorporated, what could be? Also, please make it known that this is needed, that the City should commit funds to THIS site, and that downtown NEEDS more greenspace. --------------------------- Site: 105st/102ave - North West Corner http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture1-1.png http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...c/Picture2.png -------------------------- Personally I am a huge fan of Emery Barnes park on the edge of yaletown in Vancouver. http://yaletown.ca/wp-content/upload...meryBarnes.gif (http://yaletown.ca/wp-content/upload...meryBarnes.gif) http://activerain.com/image_store/up...2009603367.jpg (http://activerain.com/image_store/up...2009603367.jpg) http://pricetags.files.wordpress.com...PG?w=248&h=317 (http://pricetags.files.wordpress.com...PG?w=248&h=317) http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5760/p1200711.jpg (http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5760/p1200711.jpg) |
Make sure there is a playground for kids to play.
|
really
or should there be open areas for kids to play... This is a very urban location, perhaps we need to rethink play ground. |
...or an "urban playground", for parkour of course!
|
hahaha... a parkour course.
|
Yes, open space that can be used for passive recreation and an off-leash area are two important components. This park must have a delicate balance between hard and soft landscaping.
|
If downtown is going to compete against the suburbs for families then something of equal or greater value has to be in place. Parks are like advertisements in a newspaper - they sell. Keep it simple or it will get lost in translation.

the extension in emery barnes in vancouver - most of it is now open - just one last bit to be demolished and done
anyway - prior to this extension being open the park - phase 1 was nice but a lot of sketchy types kinda made you not feel welcome there - but since the second part opened and the dog park and children's playground have come in the park is now full of families and dog people and the sketchy types seem to be less daunting - its a really great park and a nice spot to stop by in there is also yaletown park which isn't very welconming with its choice of non-grass ground covering... and is usually empty http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3144/...3a55b65f8c.jpg flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tripleman/ |
An off leash area would be awesome. Having lived in a loft near the proposed park, it really sucked for my dog as there is a real lack of green-space in that part of town.
|
Obviously only about 3mins of work, but this is what i would more or less like to see...
-Water fountain with seating around it -slightly raised "stage" -low hedging with seating along the concrete curves -off leash fenced area at back http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...Picture1-2.png |
