If you could add 5 towers to your skyline.....

The catch is all 5 have to be from different cities in the U.S.

For Seattle I would add:

Atlanta's BOA tower
New York's Woolworth tower
Chicago's Hancock tower
Houston's Pennzoil center
Detroit's One Detroit Center

mhays Jul 28, 2016 7:52 PM

Mine for Seattle would all be tall residentials. I don't know which ones.

Steely Dan Jul 28, 2016 8:18 PM

for chicago:

1. ESB - NYC
2. terminal tower - cleveland
3. US steel - pittsburgh
4. columbia center - seattle
5. transamerica pyramid - san francisco

i tried to keep this geared towards taller towers (that i really admire) that would still be able to have some kind of a presence on chicago's mighty skyline.

there are craploads of shorter skyscrapers around the coutnry that i would love to have in chicago too, but i answered this more as a "skyline enhancement" exercise, and in chicago's case, that means towers that are at least 750' tall.

1Boston Jul 28, 2016 8:47 PM

For Boston

45 East 22ave in NYC

Columbia Center in Seattle

BofA center in Houston

150 North Riverside in Chicago

One Atlantic Center in Atlanta

Tried to go with relatively newer buildings that wouldn't completely overtake boston's own skyline.

UPChicago Jul 29, 2016 3:43 PM

For Chicago

- Shanghai Tower to replace Thompson Center
- Suzhou Center for the Spire Site
- Tower Verre at Roosevelt & Wabash
- 181 Fremont in the South Loop
- L Tower near McCormick

Centropolis Jul 29, 2016 4:18 PM

i don't really care about skyline, but i'd add some central park streetwall to augment the east or west end of forest park in st. louis.

dave8721 Jul 29, 2016 5:00 PM

We could use 5 office towers.

fflint Jul 29, 2016 5:38 PM

I love this game. For San Francisco:

Jin Mao Tower (Shanghai)
Fountain Place (Dallas)
Mercantile Building/10 E. 40th St. (New York)
Bank of China (Hong Kong)
Chrysler Building (New York)

MolsonExport Jul 29, 2016 5:40 PM

1) Chrysler Building (NYC)
2) Empire State Building (NYC)
3) Woolworth Building (NYC)
4) Bank of China Tower (HK)
5) 20 Exchange Place (NYC)

nergie Jul 29, 2016 5:56 PM

For Chicago

(1) IFC Hong Kong for Spire Site
(2) Bank of China Hong Kong for Thompson Center
(3) Shanghi World Financial Center for Wolf Point
(4) Tokyo City Hall in Shinjuku to extend Skyline further west
(5 is a tie) The Shard, Penzoil Building In Houston, Hudson Yards corset building

pico44 Jul 29, 2016 6:38 PM

For NYC

US Steel - Pittsburgh
Daley Center - Chicago
Lloyds - London
HSBC - Hong Kong
Water and Power - Los Angeles

plinko Jul 29, 2016 7:26 PM

This is really tough. I almost want to add 5 per era! I will leave it to built structures, not even those under construction (which would change my list)

I will do LA, since it's the nearest major skyline to me.

Petronas (somewhere down towards the 10 in South Park)
Jin Mao (over by Chinatown)
Pearl River Tower (fronting FIDM park space)
70 Pine Street (somewhere on Broadway or Main)
Landmark Tower (Little Tokyo)

volguus zildrohar Jul 29, 2016 8:12 PM

Philadelphia's skyline doesn't have enough Art Deco and quality masonry so...

In no particular order...

1) 111 Westminster (Providence, RI, USA)

npr.org

2) Gulf Tower (Pittsbrgh, PA, USA)

rugbyrealty.com

3) CitySpire Center (New York, NY, USA)

Stephen Wilcox/Flickr

4) Scotia Plaza (Toronto, ON, CA)

5) Gas Company Tower (Los Angeles, CA, USA)

For NY:

1) Sears Tower (I'd place it on 5th Ave near 432 park)
2) Ping Centre (From Shenzhen; I'd place it in Hudson Yards)
3) International Commerce Center (From Hong Kong, I'd place it in DoBro)
4) Bank of China Tower (I'd place it right where 2 WTC should rise)
5) Oriental Pearl Tower (I'd place it right on Battery Park)

:D

Interesting how a lot of us dig towers from HK. Truly some fantastic architecture there.

Amanita Jul 30, 2016 7:20 PM

For Halifax, Nova Scotia, I'd love to make the height-phobic NIMBYs scream!

NYC- One Penn Plaza. (OMG the NIMBY shrieks would be epic, it's HUGE)
San Francisco- 50 Fremont (I can't help it, it's a cutie)
Dubai- The Address Downtown Dubai
Toronto- First Canadian Place
Dallas- Fountain Place

We really are a society of title readers only.

Only two posters have followed the OP's stipulations so far.

Indeed, the bldgs were supposed to be from diff cities

DrNest Jul 31, 2016 12:30 AM

To Toronto I would add:

1) Library Tower - LA
2) John Hancock Tower - Chicago
3) John Hancock Tower - Boston
4) Columbia Center - Seattle
5) XYZ Buildings - NYC (I know technically these are three buildings, but I count them as one)

I do love this thought exercise. I've often longed for an app or PC program that can generate a skyline with other buildings from various cities added in grid. I appreciate this can be done with PaintShop, but I would like a click and drag version for simplicity's sake.

For Detroit:

Unite d'Habitation. I'd like a Unite by Le Corbusier to have been built south of Mies van der Rohe's Lafayette Park.

Ministry of Health and Education Building by Lucio Costa in Rio de Janeiro.

Guarantee Building by Louis Sullivan in Buffalo.

Inland Steel Building by SOM in Chicago.

And as much as Rockefeller Center as I can get. :)

Honorable mentions include Park Hill in Sheffield and Robin Hood Gardens in London, but both are very site dependent so I stuck with more universal buildings.
