BAKU | Azerbaijan Tower | 3,645 feet | 185 FL

A developer in Azerbaijan plans to construct the world’s tallest building as part of a complex on a chain of 41 artificial islands in the Caspian Sea. Kana Guluzade, marketing director of the Avesta company, said Tuesday that along with hotels and apartment buildings, the complex would include a business center soaring to 3,645 feet, 27 percent taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Construction would start in late 2013.

Oh for gods sake. I'm getting tired of this 'building supertalls strictly for the sake of bragging rights' business. What are they going to fill it with? I mean, Azerbaijan isn't The Congo, but I can't imagine there are too many multinational corporations looking for Class A office space or billionaires looking for massive apartments there.

^^ Developing countries are in a skyscraper race nowadays. It's all about who's got the biggest dick. Dubai, Jeddah, Port Sudan, now Baku. Who's next? A town in Waziristan maybe?

Eidolon Jan 26, 2012 6:28 PM

There is no way this building will actually be built because they simply don't have the money, need or will for this. Excuse me while I go laugh outside.

11/10 trolling.

This isn't a valid proposal anyway... never happening

AZERBAIJAN | Azerbaijan Tower | 1050 M | 189 FLOORS

Azerbaijan To Build One Kilometer-Tall Skyscraper

February 9, 2012

Developers in Azerbaijan are planning to build a kilometer-high tower that would, obviously, be the world’s tallest. As News.az reports, Haji Ibrahim Nehramli, president of the Avesta Group of Companies, promises that the Azerbaijan Tower, as the project is being called, would rise 1,050 meters with 189 floors to dwarf both the Burj Khalifa (by 220 meters or 722 feet) and the Kingdom Tower currently planned for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (by 50 meters or 164 feet). That’s not all. The Avesta Group will be planting their tower on an artificial island in the Caspian Sea, at the foot of virginal beaches and crystalline waters.

The Azerbaijan Tower will be the crowning centerpiece of the Khazar Islands, a $100 billion city of 41 artificial islands that will spread 2,000 hectares over the Caspian. The buoyant metropolis is being planned for 1 million residents, who will be housed in endless rows of high-rises ranging for 25 to 60 stories in height with access to over 150 schools, 50 hospitals and daycare centers, plus numerous parks, shopping malls, cultural centers, university campuses, and even a Formula 1 racetrack. The city will be equipped with a robust network of “innovative” bridges and infrastructure that will link outlying islands to the urban core, while a large municipal airport will provide access to and from the radiant city.

This belongs in vision/never happening... especially considering what's 'envisioned' probably costs more than Azerbaijan's entire GDP...

gramsjdg May 8, 2012 4:09 PM

That is absolutely hideous in every respect. :koko:

MolsonExport May 8, 2012 4:23 PM

Another absurd attempt at dick measuring.

Looks like some kind of rocket launch, and would they actually put the name of the tower in English? Or that's just for the rendering perhaps.

SPIREINTHEHOLE! May 8, 2012 7:53 PM

Not only is this beyond the entire GDP of Azerbaijan, for this development to be fully populated (1 million) the country would experience either a migration of ~11% of the population or an absorption by this development of 100% of Azerbaijan's average annual population growth over eight years (2011 pop growth rate) or a combination of both; I know they want to put on a show for Eurovision but this is overboard.

antinimby May 9, 2012 12:33 AM

It doesn't even look that tall.

That plus they show all that tropical foliage, which is absolutely ridiculous for a cold climate like Baku. :uhh:

gabypoux May 11, 2012 9:38 PM

I don't really like the design:shrug: It looks too massive...

"The height of 250 floors of the building, is expected to reach 1050 meters."

Not even worth posting. This won't ever happen.

Someone in Baku needs to lay off the crack pipe.
