A couple of items that may merit some attention as construction begins at SkyHouse downtown...
Across Main Street, it looks like crews are cleaning out the old Savoy-Field hotel, abandoned for over two decades. Meanwhile on HAIF, user 'skooljunkie' noticed something else may be in the works for another adjacent block... Quote:

DrLan32 on HAIF made a pretty informative summary of what is currently happening in south midtown alongside the light rail:

Oh thank god the Chateau 10 is still alive and under construction. When I first heard of it in 2011, it immediately became my favorite project in Houston.
I was saddened last year when I "heard" it was taken off the books and that the land was sold or some nonsense like that. I'm so happy. Now they need to build 5,000 of those in EaDo. It would be so incredible. I hope they do. Amazing way to infill and a brand new concept for the city. |
No renders yet, but another midrise senior living center is planned.

The scale of the boom in new development is stunning. All permits are on track for a $5 billion-plus year. And home prices are up a record 14% in April.

I do not understand the Atlanta skyline in the last rendering. Besides, the Atlanta skyline backdrop is also incorrect. This should be a nice addition to an already growing residential market in Downtown. |
Considering they dont even have the right damned skyline I cant very well take that project seriously.

An apartment tower has been in the plans for a while now in addition to renovating the Texaco building. In 2011, another group with a similar proposal also had intentions to develop a shorter apartment tower on the site.

Issues of buildings being close to each other during construction is an issue in any city. These people don't have a right to be exempt from something every property owner goes through.

And thats horrible that they are tearing down the Houston Club Building, cant they just restore it? Why freaking tear down an historic building when there are dozens upon dozens of ugly parking lots all over downtown to build on, makes no damned sense to me. |

I just got back to Austin after spending the weekend in Houston for the FreePress Summerfest music festival. It was amazing to see the amount of infill going up in the Montrose, Westheimer, and Washington Ave areas. Hit up Blacksmith for some breakfast and then The Beaver for some bloody marys... and the Liberty Station for some more drinks. Was curious to know what the houses in this area are going for? Any ideas of what you could get a fixer upper for?

While there's a lot of multifamily activity going on in and around town, specific options for senior citizens are also seeing a boost.
