With the right design, and maybe facade, hell, it would be a cool experiment. Its always cool when cities experiment, and that gamble might turn out in the end to be great.

I'd support this concept under the right conditions.

NYguy Mar 18, 2017 1:02 AM

^ It makes the Central Park Tower look decent in that rendering.

Excuse me, what is number#7 Big Bend Tower? Is going to be build a super tallest tower? On what floors is it?

It isn't a real proposal. :)

Peterjon Mar 19, 2017 10:46 AM

I agreed but one thing SF building would be 750 feet tall. But Central park tower!! we know the height of it.

faridnyc Mar 19, 2017 3:34 PM

In this rendering the cpt look has a spire ,wish it will have one's

NYguy Mar 20, 2017 1:15 AM

As of now, it won't. But it does look better with it, even though the building is boxy.

Great updates!.. I'm guessing there's a film for the cladding that leaves it so opaque for now?

Most likely.

I don't recall, but you would think it would be to the left in that 58th street render. But that's where the enclosed pedestrian passageway between the Arts League building is supposed to be.

You were hoping to score a construction loan for Central Park Tower to replace the $235 million Blackstone land loan, but you ended up refinancing. What went wrong?

We were not ready for it. This is a significant loan. We have to be far down the road in terms of buying out the job. We did an interim bridge loan till the end of the year. Blackstone stayed on for a small piece of the deal, and JPMorgan came in as the lead. Now we are ready for a construction loan in the neighborhood of $900 million and we expect to get one in the next few months. That only represents $1,800 a foot. It would be a very conservative construction loan.

How did you link up with SMI, your Chinese equity partner on Central Park Tower?

SMI was brought in to us by a broker. It took us a long time to negotiate a deal. They were very tough negotiators, but at the end of the day, we got a deal done that worked for everybody.

Still no really good renders for this...

In June 2012, Extell announced its plans to build its newest landmark along Manhattan’s premier 57th Street corridor. Rising to over 1,550 feet above Manhattan, Central Park Tower will be New York’s tallest residential tower.

The building will include ultra-luxury condominium residences, dynamic amenity spaces as well as a 285,000-square-foot Nordstrom department store. This new 7-story flagship store will be Nordstrom’s flagship location in New York City. Designed by the world-renowned architectural firm, Adrian Smith+ Gordon Gill Architecture, with interiors by Rottet Studio, Central Park Tower will redefine the famed NewYork City skyline. The transparent and delicately designed base facade allows for natural light to illuminate the department store interior. Above the base, the tower begins to setback from the street edge and yield unprecedented views of Central Park, the city and beyond.

I wonder how many New Yorkers are even aware of what kind of monster this will be.
