Regina | Globe Theatre Rehabilitation | Under Construction
The Globe Theatre at MacCorquodale Place - Theatre
Location: Regina Downtown Architect(s): P3Architecture Contractor: Ledcor Partners: Globe Theatre, City Of Regina, Government Of Saskatchewan, Government of Canada Cost: $40 million Status: Under Construction Construction Start: 2020 Construction End: 2023 Grand Opening: 2024 https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...-globe-theatre - March 18th, 2019 Globe Theatre is located inside the Prince Edward Building, constructed around 1907. It was a post office for the first half of its life and later served as Regina’s city hall before it was rented in 1980 by Saskatchewan’s first professional theatre company. Globe purchased the building in 2013, at which point it was well known that the existing facility had reached the end of its useful life. Since it’s designated as a municipal heritage building, any form of renovation must be handled with care — especially when it comes to the iconic clock tower. Globe Theatre hopes to move back into the facility in late 2023. The first season in the renovated building would launch early in 2024. https://i.ibb.co/ftG03wD/483-CCC3-D-...6626292-A1.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Vv91G5f/68-D497-F9-...5-C28-C1-D.jpg https://i.ibb.co/whCJdn1/1-E46-C127-...09158-AB77.jpg https://i.ibb.co/7kJ1GyB/60-BD2-DF4-...ABB2198299.jpg https://i.ibb.co/5YdcfPj/ACA758-CF-4...D4499-C3-C.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Qc8ZSpg/95-EB19-F6-...FB30-C3830.jpg https://i.ibb.co/YjqZwBF/DDFF6-BBD-B...051-D2-B22.jpg https://i.ibb.co/wLfGqjX/09-C9-D11-C...36625-F428.jpg https://i.ibb.co/7CKBKQD/BC287-FCB-1...ECEF5-B338.jpg |
MacCorquodale family donates $3 million to Globe Theatre renovation
With the $3 million donation by Andrew and Chantel MacCorquodale, the venue will now be known as “The Globe Theatre at MacCorquodale Place”. https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...tre-renovation Globe Theatre is building a brighter future for Regina's arts community "We’ll have a professionally outfitted theatre the likes of which the city of Regina has never seen before.” https://leaderpost.com/entertainment...arts-community |
Thanks for creating a thread for The Globe Theatre at MacCorquodale Place. I was curious how they were going to improve the seating (especially in the corners with poor sightlines). I look forward to seeing the restored exterior. It's an attractive building that just needed a lot of TLC!

Will there be an increase in seating at all? Or is this more of a general makeover, with added stage tech?

The following is from a Leader-Post story by from 2019. (I have included the link below, if you are interested). "The roof will be taken off in order to expand the seating in the mainstage area by 100 seats and everything will be made accessible, a 180-degree switch from the theatre’s current state." https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...-globe-theatre |

Wild that it’s taking 4 years to complete, but I guess that comes with the territory.

I am wondering with the announcement of 11th Avenue getting an overhaul (which will affect the north side of the Globe more so) that hopefully/maybe the city has a Scarth Street mall overhaul in the planning as well. It continues to be my hope. I wonder how much of the front entrance area of the Globe onto Scarth will be done.
