lolwut? What is that?

mello May 31, 2012 10:53 PM

I'm down but the scale looks off in this rendering I don't think that is how this development would truly appear.

Lipani May 31, 2012 11:07 PM

Hideous. It belongs in a cheesy 80's sci-fi movie.

Derek Jun 1, 2012 3:16 AM

I like it because it's different. But it's way too ugly.

It's kind of like my cousin's cat. It's so ugly, it's cute. But it's cute for the right reasons. That building isn't cute. :ack:

HurricaneHugo Jun 1, 2012 6:12 AM

Hideous.

Reminds me of the favelas in Brazil.

gmsalpha Jun 1, 2012 1:04 PM

Wow. I didn't know San Diego was trying to be the new Bombay. That's one of the ugliest buildings I've seen in a long time. Different, for sure. But holy guacamole! :(

SDfan Jun 2, 2012 7:27 AM

I don't know, I kind of like it. Not a rectangle with bulky balconies. To note, if one actually looks at favelas or Bombay architecture, there are acute differences between them.

Is that something you designed at the Newschool, kpexpress?

Illithid Dude Jun 2, 2012 8:21 AM

Is that a serious proposal?

Another grocery store for downtown, and this time a locally based one.

I like it.... the problem with most people on here is that they want what only appeals to them.. or want the same boxy, balcony looking buildings that only look slightly different because of color.

You people really need to step out of your comfort zone about architecture. Think of unbuilt or parking areas as a canvas.. and the architecture is the architect's artwork of course.... theres a reason why they did this and that to a building.. u know what i mean??

Plus, its different.. it'll stand out and ppl will take pics of it.. sooner or later it'll be a must see cuz it looks odd.

Out of all the places to put a grocery store, they picked Horton Plaza?

mello Jun 3, 2012 6:27 AM

^^^ I agree I love Jimbo's I frequent the Leucadia and Escondido locations but I just don't see this being a very convenient in and out for people. Maybe it will fit in well with the whole redo of Horton though, especially after the demolition of the Sam Goody building.

When is that supposed to happen btw?

I'd like it more if it wasn't as tall as it is. It's similar to Habitat 67 in Montreal. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...BsLW6gHFz7G5DA

I don't know, I think Horton is a great place for a market. The Gelson's at Century City mall in LA seems to do fine. Speaking of redo, not sure if anyone has posted this yet:

Looks like Westfield is trying to make Horton Plaza relevant again. Appears they're making a play towards the luxury market dominated by Fash in Mission Valley

I love the way it looks more sleek and sophisticated... what i don't like though is how they removed the domes in the architecture.. I think the domes in the mall added beauty to it... maybe they could've replaced the current ones with a more modern and glassy dome? and keep round "balconies" inside the mall rather than making them squarish....other than that i love the clean, fresh, and glassy look of it.. and keeping the maze-y feel in the area

I think Horton Plaza today looks a bit too much because of the cluster fuck of random colors and patterns, kinda hurts my eyes.. i think its ugly =/ just my opinion though.

mello Jun 6, 2012 6:21 AM

So is Westfield definitely going to do this or is it just a proposal? I like it, and the new plaza look great.
