They only got approved for one month. I believe it was flown as a “repatriation flight” rather than a regular scheduled one that anyone can book to get around the bilateral. Air India is doing something similar with flights to YVR.

Don't forget the cargo that comes from China makes a lot of money for the airline as well.

I can't say for certain, but airlines like Qatar and Emirates rely on being super-connector airlines.

If you can't put people in seats and have them connect to another destination, the business model falls apart. Since they've suspended many of their routes due to low demand, the whole model of a painless connection to wherever falls apart.

Relatively few people - compared to the volume the airlines carry - go to Dubai or Doha.

The first 767 to leave WestJet's fleet departed YYC today for Lake City, Florida to be converted for cargo. The plane was spotted yesterday with it title's painted over, and looks like another one is getting ready to leave too.

As for who bought them, I've heard everything from Prime Air, Cargojet to UPS.

I don't think WestJet will miss those 767s.

Well, AF won't be flying to YVR (with passenger rights) until March 31, 2021, at the earliest, so WS's YYC-CDG run will come in handy for the folks over at Vancouver, at least for the next few months.

Jury is still out on if WS will continue to serve CDG beyond October. It’s still technically seasonal, but I can’t imagine they would resume a long haul route for just 2 months at the end of summer. Should be clear when they update their schedule next month.

YOW's July pax stats are out. The airport has grown from being 3% as busy as usual in April to 10% as busy in July.

Is YYC-CDG currently for sale past October 31? If it isn’t, I doubt they will open it up for sale in the coming weeks. You’re not going to fill up a B787 on a winter TATL run in such short notice, especially not one operating YYC-CDG in the COVID era.

Not currently. But why resume flying it for just 2 months late in summer? It’s the only “seasonal” route they are flying now too.

We are approaching a decline less than 80% on year to year basis for some airport. Fuelled by the strong domestic numbers of course.

I really hope the feds see this as an opportunity and really fund airside infrastructure at all the major airports.

Air Canada have resumed selling tickets from Castlegar to both Vancouver and Calgary again!!
Didn't know if these planes would ever come back!

Because they have 5 (6?) airframes and a bunch of aircrew sitting around doing almost nothing. May as well utilize one of them a little more and maybe (if loads are okay) extend the season.
