Here's hoping for 18 million in 2017 ! |

I think YUL will certainly be at or damn near 18 million given the announced intl expansion. Big risk to that is if Domestic or Transborder falls off a cliff, which is unlikely.

Good article outlining the YVR-China growth over the last 18 months.
https://www.biv.com/article/2017/1/v...flights-surge/ Didn't realize this but July 2017 is scheduled to see 104 flights a week or 46% growth in flights since January 2016. That's pretty nuts. Here's a good graph from the article showing the growth from January 2017 to August 2017 alone: https://www.biv.com/media/filer_publ...na_flights.png https://www.biv.com/article/2017/1/v...flights-surge/ |
Interesting aerial photo of the Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport (CYQM) in Moncton looking northeastward (away from the city)
http://cyqm.ca/wp-content/uploads/20...es-946x538.png This is lifted from the revamped GMIA website: http://cyqm.ca From this altitude you can see all the way down the Northumberland shore as far as Cape Tormentine and PEI is visible in the distance. It makes everything seem so close......... |
My parents want to visit the east coast this year - I've suggested that they fly to Moncton and use that as their base. I figure it's a pretty good central location to base out of for ~5 days.

NewLeaf cancels more flights amid 'schedule change'
CBC News Posted: Jan 19, 2017 1:21 PM ET Last Updated: Jan 19, 2017 1:21 PM ET https://i.cbc.ca/1.3392130.147933025...line-plane.jpg Discount flight provider NewLeaf has cancelled four flights across Canada for a six-week period. (NewLeaf) Budget flight company NewLeaf has cancelled more flights in Ontario, B.C., Alberta and Nova Scotia for the next few weeks. According to a memo sent to passengers, four flights — all on Sundays — have been cancelled, effective Jan. 15: Hamilton to Halifax. Halifax to Hamilton. Abbotsford, B.C., to Edmonton. Edmonton to Kelowna, B.C. NewLeaf spokeswoman Julie Rempel told CBC News that the company had to make a "schedule change" for Sundays that will last for six weeks. "Passengers have either been re-accommodated or can travel with us on a different day," she said. Flights booked through NewLeaf are operated by Flair Airlines, a licensed Canadian company with pilots flying Boeing 737-400 passenger jets. Flair Air liable for passenger rights, not ticket reseller NewLeaf, judge says Rempel said negotiations with Flair caused the cancellations. "It's a schedule change due to the fact that Flair needed an aircraft back, so we negotiated a schedule to accommodate with our airline partner Flair," she said. "It is not a route that is in jeopardy for the long term." NewLeaf also cancelled flights from Hamilton to Melbourne, Florida as well as Alberta routes to Mesa, Ariz., near Phoenix earlier this month. ... http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilt...leaf-1.3943073 |
How many aircraft are they using right now? There were two in Winnipeg at the same time when we landed on Monday.

Having said this though, many of the places your parents might want to visit in Nova Scotia are just too far away to comfortably use Moncton as a base of operations. I therefore humbly suggest that they consider extending their vacation to a full week, spending three nights each in Moncton and Halifax and doing an overnighter in Baddeck, Cape Breton so that they can do the Cabot Trail. If they did this, then they would get the full Maritime experience. When in Halifax, they should spend a full day in the city itself, and reserve a second day for a trip down the south shore to Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. They won't regret it. :) |
I think they might skip Cape Breton simply for the fact that we were there about 8 years ago. They haven't really been anywhere since. The only further afield place I could see them going is somewhere like Lunenburg. They could do your south shore suggestion with one night in Halifax though.
|
I'd also suggest doing those NS towns: Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove, and Lunenburg. I'd prioritize the last 2.

Dinning out, drinking and/or going to strip clubs is more important for Quebecers. No money left to fly. Besides, those 8 million "missing" passengers should be domestic passengers. Reason #1 that they are missing: Lack of proper strip clubs in the rest of the country ! No need to leave. ;) |

They've got decent service, but until they do something about this rule (and I'm not holding my breath - Chinese government regulations take a long time to change) I'll never choose a Chinese airline to fly internationally. |

Total: 16,623,438 +7.1% International: 6,302,071 +6.2% Transborder: 3,874,479 +4.5% Domestic: 6,446,888 +9.7% Seems like English Canadians are increasingly coming to Montreal for the strip clubs ! But in all seriousness, i agree with craneSpotter: YUL should be handling double the amount of domestic passengers, a la YYC..... |
