CMA Expansion?

So, running some numbers for Hamilton, it seems that 27% of West Lincoln's employment and , along with 26% of Haldimand County. As far as I can tell for the full commuter comparison numbers that's 33% commute relations for Haldimand and Hamilton, and 32% for West Lincoln and Hamilton. Yet people are talking about Haldimand joining Hamilton's CMA but not West Lincoln. Did I mess the numbers up?:???:

Commuting pattern is important but the population also needs to be 50,000 and above before it can be merged with a CMA. Under 50,000 it's a CA.

I believe Haldimand was off by 1, 49,999, last time so it didn't get included to Hamilton's CMA.

No, wait think I got that wrong.

I know there needs to be a minimum of population before joining a CMA.

So West Lincoln is too small? Because Grimsby's pretty small.

There are population minimums to become a CMA (100,000 with 50k in the "urban core") or a CA (10,000), but there is no minimum population a census subdivision (CSD) needs to have to be added to an existing CMA or CA.

The commuting flow rules on StatsCan's definitions page would dictate whether West Lincoln or Haldimand are added.

Okay, that's why I started with commuting patterns, and why I was confused. Those are pretty much the same for Haldimand and West Lincoln but everyone's talking about Haldimand joining Hamilton's CMA next census.

If Haldimand met the criteria to be added and not West Lincoln, they could simply make a judgment call and add the latter under the "manual adjustment" rule.

It would be the only CSD in the Niagara Peninsula that's not part of either the Hamilton or St. Catharines-Niagara CMAs. Not sure if that really matters though. But it would fill in a spatial gap created by adding Haldimand.

An extra 60k next census would be very nice.
