Sad to see the Nylon Nets building go, but the challenges of reusing this building are enormous. They stick pretty close to the original design. I think they are even reusing the bricks.

Redesigned hotel would rise over Beale’s east end, renderings show

This from a few days ago. Nothing really special here IMO but will be a nice infill on Beale St. and could work well with the Union Row development.

Quote:

Developers have unveiled new renderings for a six-story hotel occupying an important corner for Memphis: Beale at Fourth.

Developer Nick Patel of Knoxville, owner of Turkey Creek Hospitality, submitted the plans for a 145-room hotel at 380 Beale, which is the now-vacant northeast corner with Fourth.

No name for the boutique hotel has been chosen, Patel said Thursday night, even though one rendering includes a sign stating “The Beale.” Patel said that was a placeholder name.

The architecture firm’s principals, who still own the lot of three-fourths of an acre at 705 S. Main, wrote a letter of intent to the Land Use Control Board and will design the townhomes.

U of M unveils design of $41 million Herff STEM Research building

By this time next year, the University of Memphis expects to break ground on its STEM Research and Classroom building, a 65,000-square-foot addition to Herff College of Engineering designed for research.

It will include space for researchers from computer science and the College of Arts and Sciences, allowing them to collaborate.

“For engineering, all facilities we have were completed 50 years ago,” said Rick Sweigard, dean of the Herff College. “At that time, we really weren’t doing much research. This was pretty much an instructional institution.

They are missing an important element in my book...
An Indoor Waterpark element to help with Sept to June.

They are at least 3.5 million at 3hrs or less drive to this. It stands a chance. 5 hours gets Nashville and Birmingham involved, even St. Louis.

Now if the Mayor of Memphis could get to Copenhagen and check out Tivoli Park and make that connection to what Mud Island could be.

An Aquarium

Revamped Museum complete with flying theater trip of the Mississippi from the headwaters to the Gulf.

Revamped Riverwalk with addition botanical features.

Revamped Amp with architecturally significant cover without obstructing skyline view.

Eateries

A modest in number but high quality selection of rides that maximizes the space, like Tivoli.

A relocation of the the marina to maximize space on the Island.

Land bridge connecting Beale Street Landing to the southern end of the Island.

Weekend fireworks throughout the summer.

A winter operating program consisting of lighting, decor, skating rink, a European style winter market that lines the Riverwalk and a centerpiece Lighted Christmas tree at the Gulf that does a light show set to music.

Some developments for Downtown.

Viking is actually finally starting river cruising. The Two existing companies have more starts and stops planned for Memphis. 2023 is looking to be stellar with an insane amount of cruise visitors compared to past years.

Commercial appeal site/ edge district

What’s next for CA site once it’s no longer needed as over flow site?? It sits on 13 acres and has vacant lot and buildings right next to it. Also the rising edge district sits directly across the street with future development planned for that district. 901 fc will eventually have to start the process of a soccer specific stadium it’s my belief that the edge district should be the cities soccer capital. Here’s a blue print of what the CA site and edge district should become.

So, not being from Memphis, I don't know the relationship between the city and the Univ. of Memphis. The Liberty Bowl from what I've read is owned by the city. So, if the city approves the funding that UM wants to do upgrades to the Liberty Bowl, who then manages the construction and installation of those upgrades? Just wondering since from what I've read the city hired a company to manage the Liberty Bowl. So, just trying to understand what role if any does the UM play in actual redevelopment in the stadium other than recommending upgrades and wish lists items.

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the Arlington Planning Commission unanimously approved the site plan for a SpringHill Suites by Marriott hotel on the southwest corner of the Interstate 40 and Airline Road interchange... The 19,492-square-foot building will feature 124 rooms, a swimming pool, fitness center, two 40-person meeting rooms, and a board room. The new hotel will sit just west of the four-story, 110-room Fairfield Inn & Suites under construction. Work began last year on the $14 million hotel, with completion anticipated by November... The hotel is part of the Arlington Trails development.
