Yes, exactely! This will be part of my first contribution to the city. The place to get drunk after a hard day of work ;)

Mocholate Oct 13, 2010 7:38 AM

It's cool, I was able to salvage the layout from the wreckage.

Aleks do you have any entries for the name comp as yet?

Mocholate Oct 13, 2010 8:04 AM

This could be fun, and maybe interesting for some?-

Developing the terrain is really a tedious process which has potential to send someone friggin loopy ! To save that from happening to me i was wondering if anyone would be interested in helping out with it?

I've uploaded the map so far to 3D warehouse which includes the map and a picture of Tolberts plan beside it. All you need to do is use the 'move' tool and click on to an intersecting line > push the arrow up key > physically move the intersection upwards then type in the height you want to achieve with it.

The model is here - If you choose to accept this mission please let me know and we'll work out which parts to do.

No names Mo!

Come on people! How can we have a competition without competitors? Send in as many names as you want but in a SINGLE pm!

Flamesrule Oct 13, 2010 9:04 PM

Hey aleks i sent you some names but some are kinda lame.

Tolbert Oct 14, 2010 4:24 AM

Ill send some over talter too

Aleks Oct 14, 2010 5:18 PM

got some names from 2 people already!

I'm entering some as well. Send me moarrr!

Innsertnamehere Oct 14, 2010 7:15 PM

did you get my name??? i didn't put a capital letter at the start of your name, so it might have sent it to someone else....

Aleks Oct 14, 2010 7:21 PM

Nope sorry! So far I only have Tolberts and Flamesrules.

Click on my name and look for the 'Send Private Message' link under Contact Info. That way it's all set up and no chances of sending it to no one (or someone else!).

BTW, I forgot to mention that the winner of this comp won't get to chose the next one. Having your name chosen as the "official SSP-City" is good enough! Right?

I think I'll start a poll on Sunday night or Monday morning so we can continue with the city.

Mocholate Oct 16, 2010 12:09 AM

Good stuff, These comps really are a great idea. I think we should have some sort of voting/approval system for building entries too.

Speaking of which and since we won't have an official city thread until the name is established below are the requirements for building designs;

Model specific;
-Hand drawn.
-Limited textures, Please only use SU textures, keep them to a minimum and only use where necessary.
-No uncolored or missing faces.

Model criteria;
-Models should be of good quality and highly detailed, They should include window frames, hand rails, door handles, awnings etc. and be as close to scale as possible.
For reference please see my example in 3D warehouse.

Please feel free to discuss.

Are you sure we really need such incredible detail? I think it would be problematic especially for our more unexperienced sketchupers doing a building of that detail in an appropriate time. I would skip details like door handels. I never done a door handel on the models i do, and i would have considered them as beeing of good detail. Besides that those details would pump the model size enormiously.

Flamesrule Oct 16, 2010 2:40 PM

well, I like doing the detail. I think we should do the detail. If we don't it looks like I can't use of one my buildings that I was creating for over a month.

It mkaes the city more better loooking when Mo Renders it.

But yeah it would be a problem with the unexperienced sketchupers.

.

I have to agree with Tolbert:previous:

What I would like to see is a thread that only Mo.
can post rendered pics of the city on and where
we can post comments only.A seperate thread for models,
where we would have to present our model to the s.u
forumers....each model presented would be open for
discussion and 'constructive' critizism.Once a model
has passed that stage it would be handed over to Mo
where he would do some tweaking and maybe add
what ever extra detail he needs for his rendershots.

I think Mo and Alex should be the directors of the city
and should have the final say in any heated or drawnout
discussions....I would also like to see Vellu up there with
the two lads as he has good experience at doing detailed
cities.

Finally I think the experienced modellers should help
some of the less experienced modellers with tips ,advice
and some easy tutorials ....;)

Innsertnamehere Oct 16, 2010 3:25 PM

i think we should stick with one thread, as multiple threads didn't go over so well over on ssc... their city project essentially died until they moved it back to one thread..

Flamesrule Oct 16, 2010 4:11 PM

^^ wE did multiple threads before and it worked out fine.

I really don't care if the city is super detailed or small deatiled beucas I can do both very deatiled and not as deatiled.

YingBlanc Oct 16, 2010 6:28 PM

working as i type on a new building which in my opinion is the most complicated i have made but i may be wrong.

Could you post some screens of your building. Just to see how much detail you have at a building that takes you over a month.

The problem i meant wasnt that there could be problems in getting high detail buildings of everybody involved. It was more concerned to the amount of time each of the buildings would take to finish. I know for my self that if i continiously work on a building i normaly finish a high detail one (i think mine are of high to moderate detail) in one or two days depending of the buildings size. So the question is how many buildings we get in time if we have details that are not essentialy important.

Ahh it probably wasn't a month. I take some big breaks from buildings. Probably it was about 1-2 weeks that I have been working on it without any breaks.

Flamesrule Oct 16, 2010 11:05 PM

Reading back at tolberts post I agree with him. Unless if mo is rendering a street shot nobody will really see the handrails. Mo could always add them to the model. I think however, there should be a nice amount of deatil on thee buildings.
