More skyscrapers being built than New York? Chicago? Miami?

Anyway good to see Houston urbanizing...

Which one? The "multifamily" is phase 2 or 3 of the complex near Elgin @ Louisiana by the HCC rail stop.

It seems as though a lot of the surface parking gaps along the light rail line are becoming of interest as the building boom continues. Projects like Broadstone Midtown, Ballpark Apartments, and Hines Museum District Tower will be characteristic of what is to come.

Spring Branch Medical Center to be turned into a Mixed-Use Development

http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/m...r-sold-to.html

Quote:

A former medical center property has been sold to a group of investors who plan to transform it into a mixed-use development.
The Houston Chronicle reports that the nearly 18-acre site of the former Spring Branch Medical Center was sold for an undisclosed price to an investment group led by Houston-based BlackSwan Investment Partners. The group also includes Bruce Phillips, co-founder and principal of Houston-based PinPoint Commercial, and Tim Delgado, president of Read King Medical Development.
BlackSwan recently partnered with Stream Realty Partners LP to develop a 25-story office tower at Washington Avenue and Waugh Drive. PinPoint recently partnered with an Atlanta firm to build senior living facilities in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
The Spring Branch Medical Center property was sold by a New York-based firm that had foreclosed on the development in July, the Chronicle reports.
In June, Marty McVey, president of Houston-based McVey & Co., which had owned the center, told the Houston Business Journal the facility would see a “new purpose,” but he couldn’t release details at the time.
McVey & Co. purchased the center from HCA Gulf Coast in 2011, but the center declared bankruptcy in 2012.

Good question. That building has been there for quite a few decades (70s?) and is definitely appalling. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be demolished some day, and something decent built in its place.

Urbannizer Oct 9, 2013 7:48 AM

Even a reno (including exterior redo) would be nice. Convert the building from office to residential units.

Hence why Metro Matt stated "major construction projects & skyscrapers" and "most" other US cities. I like the facade of the Saudi consulate. The "picture frame" effect of the residences structure is pleasant however the rest of the facade can be improved from the current design.

I can only pray the parking lot on the other side of consulate is not part of this proposal.

HERE ARE a pair of early drawings and the site plan for that apartment tower Hines has said it’s considering putting up across the street from the Asia Society Texas Center in the Museum District. Previous reports and rumors pegged the building at 20 or 22 stories, but these elevations appear to show a 25-story structure, with 19 floors of apartments perched atop a 6-level parking garage. This drawing shows the north façade. The block Hines has in mind is bound by Caroline, Oakdale, Southmore, and San Jacinto, where the light rail runs. But it appears that the building won’t take up that whole block: The site plan shows that the tower has been drawn around that home on the corner of Southmore and Caroline, whose owners have been rumored to have refused to sell.

That site plan shows a park replacing the 1919 house recently used as an eyelash institute and presently standing vacant at the corner of Southmore and San Jacinto.

I don't think it's necessary they match. I think it gives the building its own character.

The hints of a third tower are intriguing, and Anadarko certainly has the money. A lot of campuses are getting built, and this must be emblematic of the competition for talent among the oil companies.

1,600-space, 16-story parking garage. Maps included in the agenda for the October 3 commission meeting show that the garage would stand Downtown at 1311 Louisiana, now a surface lot, and share the block bound by Louisiana, Polk, Milam, and Clay with the 12-story garage for the WEDGE International Tower.
