A bit off topic, but I wonder who owns those historic houses there. I think they're all great, but they'd be even better if there was some sort of courtyard, etc., in between them. It could give off a very European vibe, rather than just being parking lots for the random law firms that lease them.

It would be even better if someone purchased the entire block and was able to reuse/convert those houses into a more useful and interesting mixed use block. Some offices could still exist on the upper floors. The ground floors could support retail, restaurants, watering holes.

I've always hoped for something along the lines of the Wilson Historic District in Dallas for those and other historic neighborhoods in downtown. https://mfi.org/WHD.html

The Meadows Foundation purchased 22 acres of the neighborhood east of Downtown Dallas to preserve the Victorian structures and offer rent-free space for non-profits. Pretty cool use of historic designation for actual preservation with public benefit IMO.

Also, first-time poster, 9-year daily lurker since my 982 trips to UT campus. I'm from the Rattan Creek neighborhood and now live in University Park (Dallas) working on two masters degrees in music at the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU. Thank you all for providing such vibrant and informative discussion, and I look forward to chiming in now and then.

At the turn of the prior century there used to be a common area in the middle of that block used for a playground by the families that lived in the surrounding homes.
A neighbor lady (Maiden name was Schneider) who later lived next to my wife’s family homestead in Taylor was raised in one of those Bremond Block houses in the Teens & Twenties. She was one of the kids who played there while the resident families socialized. It was like their own private park according to her. The lady passed away about 25 years ago.

Hopefully this is the last parking garage floor.

IluvATX Feb 16, 2021 4:37 AM

The columns would represent 2 more floors. I can’t wait for the tower to become.

Echostatic Feb 16, 2021 2:57 PM

I think there's four floors left.

It currently looks to be about the height of 300 West 6th's podium. The renderings show this podium to be quite a bit taller.

The podium roof is the 14th floor, and it's at 149 feet.

By the way, that's a really odd optical illusion going on in that rendering above between 6 X Guadalupe and 300 West Sixth.

yay! Glad to see updates on buildings again. Back to business!

That's a ridiculously large parking garage. And the rendering from the northwest doesn't give me good vibes.

But a ridiculously large podium for a VERY large building. Remember how deep the hole was for this building? The podium won't seem as large once the main building starts going up, although I'm sure the houses directly north will disagree.

Well, less UV light damage for the shingles on the old Bremond mansion. ;

Nice to see they have made the transition from the concrete pumper trucks with articulating booms to a fixed pumper station. Starting to get some height!

The sheer size of this thing is wild when walking around it at street level. Wish we could hit fast-forward and have it open already, hah
