This is the small site on the corner of Hollis and Bishop Street. It is a phase of the Brewery block redevelopment.

It will be interesting to see if Killam Properties plans to start before completing the Alexander tower.

I was thinking the same thing. Could they not use the crane for both and start Governor's Plaza?

I am not sure if I ever took pictures of it but I remember it being a somewhat nondescript, one storey brick building rather than an interesting heritage building. A replacement building was built on Morris Street years ago. This development has been planned for around 15 years at this point.

I wonder if they still plan to reconstruct the mansard roof on Keith Hall or if that was dropped?

This streetscape along Hollis could be very impressive in a few years if this is built and a couple more properties are fixed up.

I feel like it might have been dropped? The building is open and in use now, and it looks fantastic, but there's no sign of any continued work. Maybe if they ever build Halkirk House?

Assuming that beige material is stone, this looks great. If the beige material is something fake, then this could be pretty crappy. As usual, it'll come down to quality.

One of the stories I read about this development quoted the developer as saying, "hopefully we can construct them at the same time".

The development agreement still requires the mansard roof before they can get an occupancy permit for the Alexander. Dunno how that'll play out.

Looks like it could be a really nice development.

As with many Halifax developments, though, why the need for totally different cladding on the top two floors?

Someone in another thread referred to their new game - Count the Claddings - he should patent that!

I don't get it either. The red brick on the lower 4 floors is a great feature.

Not overly upset about it - I actually like the blend of old and modern.

Excavators were busy on this site this week. I didn't think it had approval from the DRC yet though?

It is great to see that they are moving ahead with this project. In this Killam Properties document on page 16 of 33, it is listed "as of right" - https://www.killamproperties.com/sit...Jan%202017.pdf . I think that it was included in the Alexander development agreement (?)

They are digging to put in water lines and power conduit in for services for the
Alexander.

Yes, you are right, it has to go through the Design Review Committee. I see that the developers gave a preliminary presentation to the Design Review Committee on September 15, 2016 - http://www.halifax.ca/boardscom/drc/...nts/160915.pdf. It doesn't appear to have been approved yet.

There was a public consultation for this development on October 16.

They need to build this already. If they use quality materials to match its surroundings, this will be a beautiful adition to a growing downtown residential area. Wish there was more glass on the Alexander though like the background in those renderings.
