This one is a mystery location.

The same eBay seller also has this original photograph of a much more modest gas station.

Luckily, there are some clues. Here are two of them

A sign for cinema equipment (and a tailor) on the left....And the street number #102 on the right.

Good luck minions!

One more mystery location for today.

Los Angeles Street, 4x5 Photo Negative from 1970 #210222l

There is one worthless slight clue. . .

a sign on the building.

but it's very blurry.

I don't believe the seller means "Los Angeles Street", per se, because all their negatives of Los Angeles say Los Angeles Street, 4x5 Photo Negative 1970 and then a number code.

You can see some of them Here

I usually don't talk about it on NLA....I just keep it to myself.

I guess we have a new topic on NLA...carousel artwork.

I actually like hearing about Carousel Artwork. No need to be snide.

:wiseman: Since we are back in the '20s, I prophesize owlish circular horn rim glasses will come back into style. O-O Hopefully, flappers will also magically reappear :pimpdaddy: :dancing:

:wiseman: I choose the round ones Martin. When covid goes bye bye I'm going to my optometrist and will get a pair of circular black horn rims. But I refuse to wear a stiff Hoover collar.

Good morning ethereal_reality,

It's been a long time since I've posted here, about 6 years to be exact.
I wanted to point out, (if you have not already done the same thing), that I took a look at the seller's other listing, and found what looks to me to be the same location, facing the opposite direction. I can't make out the signs, however, I'm hoping someone else may be able to.

UPDATE:
Hmmm, apparently I can only add a link to the photo, and not the photo itself. *sigh*

Ooh Ooh! I think I can finally solve one of these! Thanks to Sakhal's post/clue, which I agree is another photo taken from the opposite direction, there is a clue in the photo- a sign for Harbor Animal Hospital. A Harbor Animal Hospital still exists at 2078 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, which is a divided street which used to have train tracks.

So I believe this is a photo of the intersection of Torrance Blvd & Van Ness, looking West towards the intersection. The area is completely changed now, everything around having been built or re-built from the early 1980s. However, looking at historic aerials, there does appear to have been a L-shaped building near that intersection similar to ER's photo. Long gone, I have no idea what it was.

Now I'm curious about this sign. (sorry, I can't help myself)

Its always nice to read your comments. You always have somethings pleasant to say to me. I put up a carousel pic for you because I knew you would like it.

Doug, I remember a couple of months ago when you talked about how rabbit meat used to be much easier to find in markets before the 1970s. As a kid in the 1960s, I remember seeing rabbit in the meat departments when I went shopping with my parents. Are there any markets where you can get it anymore? I'm eager to give it a try. It is supposed to be very healthy to eat, low fat, etc. I saw a show on CNN Sunday on the regions and cooking of Italy hosted by the actor Stanley Tucci and part of one show talked about the island of Ischia off Naples where rabbits are a favorite dish and it looked very good. But first need to buy it. Can't figure out why a healthy tasty meat like thst became hard to find in stores. Maybe "bunny wabbits" became too cute to eat? Kids raised on Bugs Bunny cartoons refused to eat it so the parents stopped buying it? Well, chickens are somewhat cute, but we eat them. Anyway, that show on Italy reminded me. Your posts here are always interesting. Thanks.

I have no idea. I would ask your local butcher where to buy it....he should know.

Funny, but your opinions frequently seem to be a little nasty towards others. And if it makes you happy to post a carosel picture, all the better. I've met enough nasty people in LA. Lighten up.

It would be best for you to look in the mirror. For some reason you like to start fights with me. Why?

Doug, if you don't like a topic it doesn't mean that others don't find it interesting.

KevinW was right to call you out on your snide remark about the possiblity that circus paintings were incorporated into the Beckman Furs sign.

I fully expect that you will now attack me. Instead, you could start a discussion on a subject that you find interesting. That would be most welcome.

Thanks Doug

Tourists visit RKO Studios in Culver City.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/cytlwz.jpg

The RKO sign matches the neo-Colonialism of the administration building in the background but, honestly, I thought the sign would have been a bit fancier.

I don't see any small floodlights on the ground to light up the sign at night. I wonder if there is neon around the border of the sign (similar to the neon around the 'circus' paintings on the, recently discussed, Beckman Furs sign.

(I took a closer look. I think it's probably wood molding and not neon)

As most of you know the administration building (behind the sign) is shown (most famously) at the beginning of Gone With the Wind when it was the administration building of Selznick International Studios.

If I remember correctly there was a hanging sign back then. (or maybe that was just for the movies)

I've been tuning into this thread for over 11 years. I'm not aware of any arguing here in all that time that hasn't involved CityBoyDoug or his former persona (and current, elsewhere on the internet), DouglasUrantia. Interesting how that's worked.

A wider view of the RKO building. The sign's pediment matches the building's.

I posted a pic of some carousel paintings that I thought Kevin would like. Instead of saying ''thank you'', he attacked me again. What's his problem?
