Love the downtown plans, downtown is one Houston neighborhood that continues to under perform for Houston's size. Hopefully in the future it will continue improving.
They need more residents and more housing downtown. |
Love all of this. Houston leaders are finally tapping into the city's potential. Still much work to do, but I like what's going on in the core so far.

Love the update of the Asia Society. Been so curious, and there hasn't been much info around. Looks truly lovely and impeccably done. Great addition to the district.

^ Such beautiful infill. I'm just completely wowed by 1:28-1:50 & 4:50-4:54. Those were some amazing shots!

Growth appears to be accelerating in Texas, which can only be a good thing for migration magnets such as Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. http://www.newgeography.com/content/...rning-normalcy

Simply amazing. It would be awesome if this was more central, but the whole campus among the tall pine trees is breathtaking (at least in video). The centerpiece is awesome and is really a breath of architectural fresh air.
|
This thing is like 5 min. from my house and to see the dozen or more cranes sticking up over the trees is the next best thing to an orgasm. Too bad none of it will be seen from the freeway upon completion.

Downtown Rooftop LED Lights
Everyday this week I've noticed a new building downtown is lighting up with LED lights at the top. Have you guys seen this? Are they going to do every building this way?http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d9...-34-11_811.jpg

the lights on Wells Fargo are new. The lights before were white bulbs during the holidays like most of the buildings around town.

there was a neon light setup around the top of Wells Fargo from 1983 at least until 2001 when Tropical Storm Allison did some damage, or the neon could have been an Ike casualty. My memory is fuzzy.
Both Wells Fargo and Enron 1 had year-round white neon at the top. Now what Wells Fargo has is a variation of a lighting fixture called a Versatube. It's an RGB LED tube, about the same size as a flourescent bulb. There are two rows of these tubes. If anyone has ever counted the number of window panes there are in a floor on WF, that's about how many tubes there are up there They can make any color that can be made with additive color mixing (mixing red, green, and blue) It looks pretty mundane considering what the fixtures are capable of... lol (I'm a concert lighting guy... i notice these sorts of things) |

Wells Fargo has LED too, but it can change colors for different holidays & events. In that pic it almost looks purplish. |
This is a big break for Houston Tx. Great views!

Those lit buildings look like they are of the Allen Center. Is that complex of buildings managed by one company and I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Project to transform stretch of Buffalo Bayou into 'jewel' By ZAIN SHAUK, HOUSTON CHRONICLE Updated 10:36 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011 Houston and Texas Comments (0) Larger | Smaller Printable Version Email This Font A $55 million upgrade to parkland along Buffalo Bayou is set to add performance venues, improve recreational areas and revitalize downtown-area green space that officials hope will become a magnet and refuge similar to New York's Central Park. Houston City Council on Wednesday approved an operating agreement paving the way for construction, including a major restructuring of Buffalo Bayou and restoration of its ecosystems. The Harris County Commissioners Court will take up a similar agreement Tuesday. |

I dont know if this was mentioned, but the Phoenecia grocery store at One Park Place is open and its pretty awesome. Tons of Middle Eastern foods and stuff you usually cant find in the states from all around the world. Its decently priced too and was pretty full of people today. Its so awesome that downtown now has a grocery store, its about freakin time too.

Your soccer stadium now has a name btw: BBVA Compass Stadium. Please fans of the Dynamo, nickname it The Compass.

Can someone make a list on what's approved, under construction, and proposed and all that jazz?
|
Yeah that would be interesting. I would like to see a list as well.
