I wonder whether, after all the dust settles from this virus, L. A. or any other city will need quite as many office towers. This working from home thing could catch on and its a hell of a lot cheaper for large employers not to have to provide office space for all of their employees. Similarly, how many people are going to want to be jammed into high rise residence towers if there is any other option available.

^ A counterpoint is that employers have been moving towards more efficient office use of space, in that they cram employees in tighter and tighter in a "collaborative" setting. With a likely reversal of that trend for health safety purposes, employers will need more square feet per employee than they previously did.

From all the conversations I've had with people who make these kinds of decisions for large companies (10,000-80,000 employees), it's more likely that telecommuting/working from home will increase, and office footprints will get smaller, not larger. Then again, we're only 3 1/2 months into this thing, so who really knows at this point.

Walking and driving around LA, seeing soooo many people not wearing masks, sometimes myself when i forget, and seeing sooooo many people shrug off what's happening. In terms of office space, i think we'll see less demand with more working from home, but people still need housing, cant build single family homes endlessly so i feel, just like the spanish flu, once this is over, it'll be business as usual.
