This one is encountering significant NIMBY resistance from one of the neighborhood associations. Next time for possible approval is October 18.

I'd laugh in their faces... the Morgan is 400ft, the 70 and 90 Columbus is 500+ft, Grove Point is 300 ft.... the height of the Silverman tower is limited to around 400 ft ... the planning board will hopefully just consider the merits of the proposal and not noxious whining from peeved NIMBYs. I hope this doesn't cross the line, but my middle finger wants to give them a 25 Columbus sized salute. Of course bigger towers shouldn't pop up everyhere, but the area in which we are talking is zoned as a 400-500 ft or so max transition to the taller ones as you get closer to the waterfront. I also hope they don't decide to go up to the center of Journal Square in the next few years, they'll get the vapors from the eight or so 500+ft towers which will be developing around that center.

Yep... the last thing we need is 400 more parking spaces. Wouldn't congested roads be a more pressing problem? We build near transit, let's encourage bus, light rail and subway and have as few parking slots as possible. LOL... so right... NIMBYS saying the damnedest things!

I think they just run out of excuses and just for the sake of arguing, have to have a scapegoat.
It's almost like developers cater to their needs, but there still grumpy about it. Eh, but not the first time. I mean, you have developments that include a park, a school, little parking, affordable housing... yet they still complain. But things like this keep them relevant you know. What they really want is no development, so only they could have the city. Godforbid new residents come in! That's not kosher in their book. NIMBYism is a selfish act. They don't care about the community, only their own self and the way that they want the neighborhood to be. Selfishness at its best. |

Looks like a new development is planned across the street from this site (the 41-storey tower planned at 331 Marin).

Very nice! Confused about the height though. 41 stories but the article says though they can go 400 ft max here it will be a little shorter? Still yeah, we're slowly but surely getting quite the major skyline.. and don't forget quite a few in the Journal Square area running towards the Beacon/old Medical Center which has several 300 ft towers.
Plus....is 331 Marin different from 351 and what exactly is planned for the lot between 70/90 Columbus and the Morgan? |
Looks like its restrictions are part of the MGM zoning plan.

331 Marin and 351 Marin are two different 40-story buildings by different architects and different developers. But they both look very similar.

Thank you, CIA! We can never have enough 400 footers.. great transition to the higher rises further downtown and near Newport and throughout the waterfront with these and the Metro Plaza towers.
Not that one, Chris... and the design for 321 Warren has been changed and significantly improved and has been featured in recent months. The lot I mean is across the street opposite side from Grove Pointe and the lot seems to be used for building supplies for 90 Columbus. Right on Marin Boulevard between 90 Columbus and the Morgan. |
