It would be nice if we could treat great buildings with the artistic respect they deserve. It's not like we go around suggesting that what Monet's Waterlillies needs is a windmill over here and perhaps we should brighten up the rather drab Whistler's Mother.

Curbed is reporting the AON observation deck will begin 3rd quarter after delay - I hate the way the top will look breaking up the lines. bad. BUT I have to admit I've wondered since I was a kid in the 70s what the view is like from up there.

I can't recall, but wasn't this construction supposed to add some height to Aon in the process?

I thought the Aon center was gonna be 350 meters

Ugh. Fingers crossed that mutilation of a beautiful building never happens.

$185 million Aon Center observatory is latest Chicago project delayed by coronavirus

The Aon Center has paused plans to build an observatory with a thrill ride atop Chicago’s third-tallest skyscraper, and the $185 million project will start almost a year behind schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Property owner 601W Cos. and its partner on the project, tourist attraction operator Legends, plan to begin work on the observatory in the second quarter of 2021, said building general manager Matthew Amato.

Same, the only good to come of coronavirus was it delaying such an atrocity

Ugh I just realized that the thrill park ride will be on the Grant Park side of the building? They are truly ruining this building. :yuck:

Will the elevator's 1,185' height count as Aon Center's new structural height? If so, its worldwide height ranking will move up 15 spots according to CTBUH's ranking of completed buildings.

I believe so, the CTBUH lists it as such at least.

This is literally the only silver lining of this whole ordeal...

How is that a silver lining? Who cares about the structural height?

I never said this project was good or worth the extra height, but merely responding to someone else saying it will jump up on the WTB list. Obviously that's a good thing.
