I’m with you. This is kind of BS.

I thought there was some major height increase but the thread title is just the marketing scheme. This should be banned on SSP. Report the real number of floors and not what is marketed.

I agree that it's BS but it sort of makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Your average person does not understand that floor count doesn't equal height so they have to compensate. Your average person would have trouble understanding why you're standing on the 98th floor and looking down on the Empire State which is 102 floors.

SSP is inconsistent in its diagrams with this as well, 3WTC is listed with its real floor count and 4WTC with its fake one for example.

But we’re not the average person here on SSP. We know that floor to ceiling heights can be different. We’re literally a bunch of skyscraper nerds where details like this matter. Save the fake floor counts for the Realtors selling these condos. We should be posting the accurate floor count and not the Realtor marketing.

How this isn’t already a rule here on SSP, I don’t know.

The Empire State doesn’t have 103 floors either. Shocker.

But if you didn’t already know, when you go to all of those towers with the higher floor counts, the elevators respond accordingly. So, if you have to go to a specific floor, that’s what floor you go to. Even nerds know that.

C. Aug 2, 2021 7:19 AM

^and with that response, I concede this discussion is over. 98 floors or 131 floors. It doesn’t matter. Realtors should just call this America’s first 150 floor building given the height.

NYguy Aug 2, 2021 12:13 PM

Personally, I don’t really keep up with floor heights, and would probably have to look up any floor height - real or imagined - because I measure these buildings by their heights. I agree that they could have gotten away with 150 stories. I know that the Edge at the Hudson Yards isn’t really the 100th floor, but at 1,100 ft, it may as well be.

So happy to see things finally wrapped up on 57th St! I'll be back to NY next month with some friends, so I'm hoping things get lit up by then for CPT and 111W57th! I'll have some camera equipment with me to get some close-up shots, so I'm excited to see how things look in September!

100% agree! I love this site, I've been following it for many years and I think that the moment has come to write the REAL number of floors (1 FLOOR = 1 ROOF). In this moment NYC hasn't skyscrapers with over 100 floors...

Whatever those floors are is whatever they are. Nobody cares about missing floors that you can’t get to. When you go to these buildings, you will go to whatever floor they are listed as, skyscraper nerds be damned.

Exclusive Look Inside the World’s Tallest Residential Skyscraper
Located along New York’s Billionaires Row and designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Central Park Tower is a staggering 1,550 feet tall

Nadja Sayej
AUGUST 12, 2021

Quote:

The latest jaw-dropping, super-tall building on Billionaires Row is Central Park Tower, which will break records as the world’s tallest residential skyscraper. This angular, icicle-like glass tower, designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, stands at 1,550 feet tall with 131 stories. Set at 225 West 57th Street, it offers unbeatable views of Central Park and Manhattan. But for such a grandiose statement, the design team decided on a minimal aesthetic for the exterior—it’s a kind of modern classic, inspired by luxury. “The exterior aesthetic was envisioned as one of tailored elegance,” Gordon Gill, a partner at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, tells AD. “We strove to develop an expression that was specific to the massing ensemble and orientation of the tower.”
Quote:

…..But buildings that claim to be the “world’s tallest” will always see one-upmanship (it’s the second-tallest skyscraper in the U.S. after One World Trade Center and the 14th tallest in the world). So Gill is expecting competition. “There will always be a transformation of cities around the world that would invite solutions such as Central Park Tower,” he says. “These are very special buildings for very special cities.”

Manhattan Billionaires’ Row Duplex Gets a $150 Million Price Tag

https://assets.bwbx.io/images/users/.../v0/800x-1.jpg

By Maria Heeter
August 13, 2021

Quote:

A duplex at Manhattan’s Central Park Tower, the world’s tallest residential skyscraper, is on the market for $150 million.

The eight-bedroom, nine-bath condo had never been shown before it was priced this week, according to Pamela Liebman, chief executive officer of brokerage Corcoran Group. The apartment, on the 127th and 128th floors, is the highest duplex in the Billionaires’ Row tower, built by Extell Development.
Quote:

The condo -- 1,300 feet (396 meters) in the sky -- is “an architectural masterpiece, offering the ideal setting for entertaining with 270 degrees of captivating panoramic views,” according to the listing by Leighton Candler and Cathy Franklin at Corcoran. The 11,535-square-foot (1071-square-meter) unit has a 30-foot-long formal dining room, a corner observatory, private elevator and custom cabinetry.
Quote:

A penthouse at another Billionaires’ Row property, 432 Park Ave., was listed last month for $169 million, almost double the buyer’s 2016 purchase price.

Central Park Tower, at 217 W. 57th St., has amenities including private swimming pools, a sundeck and cabana with food and beverage service and a private theater, according to the listing. The 1,550-foot skyscraper has a Nordstrom store at its base.

The rendering is wrong (just generic I think), the living room and dining rooms should be double height.

I was reading this page which says "The highest occupied floor is 442 meters (1450 ft) high". Do statements like this refer to the height at the floor or at the ceiling?

BTW this same website has detailed info about a couple dozen other skyscrapers: https://thetowerinfo.com/buildings-list . Regarding the 656-meter megatall Merdeka PNB 118, it says "The highest occupied floor is at 485 meters high above the ground". So the Central Park Tower's top floor is only 43 meters (141 ft) lower, which I find impressive.

Merdeka 118 has that massive spire. Its parapet is closer to 500m, so they're not far off from each other if you don't count the spire. Roughly 100ft.

The top floors aren’t on the market yet, so they haven’t said, and I don’t recall.

The World Trade Center and phase 2 of Hudson Yards need to be finished, too.

And there will be more HUGE towers pop up.

The reality is New York City is the most powerful and richest city in the most powerful and richest country, and that will not change in any of our lifetimes.

There will be a day when 100 1,000 foot towers dot the skyline.

Wish they would have gone with the fake facade, like 220 CPS, underneath. I remember Barnett saying the entire eastern facade would be blank if the cantilever didn’t get approved. Imagine 1,500 ft of that.

It's ridiculous. It has to do with the core placement, but 220 CPS handled it's own situation nicely. On the other hand, I blame 220 CPS (Vornado's cash cow) as well as Nordstrom (who wanted better floor plans) for this awkward design. (Indirectly, we know who actually designed it).

I'm thankful we got the tower we got (albeit without its signature spire, it does feel oddly incomplete). Could it have been more fancy and ornate? Sure! 111W57 does that very well. Could it have been an absolute dud? Depending on who you ask, sure!

For me, I think a fully lit CPT will be a nice complement to the ever-growing Billionaire's Row of towers! They're towers many of us will never get to enjoy inside and out, but the area visually feels more complete with that, 220CPS, and everything else that lines up the north part of Central Park!

2020s New York isn't what I imagined growing up in the 80s and 90s, but I'm glad it's still changing and evolving! :D
