This tower ABUSES the skyline....

Takes in all the views of graceful towers, but gives nothing in return.

The only thing it gives is that at certain angles its obstructs far superior towers.

A design that could've been conjured up by at 3 year old gets to redefine, obstruct and besmirch the NYC skyline. Designed by accountants, just the bare minimum to minimize construction cost and maximize views.

A 1,500 foot structure that symbolizes the vagaries of developers with no formal regards to aesthetics.

There are those for whom no explanation is needed, and those for whom none will suffice.

I respect those who take both sides of this axiom. But re this example I would invite you to at least look at tower in isolation and perhaps you might appreciate better the subtle complexities it stands prepared to offer us.

But I quite fail so see what other major tower it blocks from any angle you'd care to mention. And at least isn't *blue* glass.

Take with as any grains of salt you this: As more of the blue gunk gets peeled off and the parapet area shapes out, I predict that positive reviews of this stunner will go through the roof.

...Especially the cantilever, which is almost intimidating in its size. I suppose one would have to be there to see that.

It is not in isolation it is part of a whole skyline, with backdrops and interplays and obstructions.... taking it out of its literal context and playing around with its visual impact, it could be said, is a manner of trying to convince oneself of something that is not real. As all it does is nothing except go up and flatten out. An insignificant setback, and cantilever that are visually marginal, but potent indicators that they sapped out as much of they could out of the massing envelope; reaching for every last penny.

You want an irrefutable appreciation, well, it is symbolic; a symbolism of design by accountants, not architects (420 Park Ave too).

Nordstrom Preps for Debut in World’s Tallest Residential Skyscraper
The family’s flagship retail chain makes its move into Manhattan’s Central Park Tower—after 118 years in business.

Bruce Nordstrom, former president of the company, in a video on Monday spoke of the allure of doing business in fashionable and heavily trafficked New York City—a dream that dates back to shortly after the retailer expanded beyond shoes in the 1960s. Other family members, including Pete, who is co-president with Erik, and Jamie Nordstrom, president of stores, appeared in the video to describe the significance of the flagship on the island.

Nordstrom won’t have to look far for well-heeled shoppers.

The tower, a new project from Extell Development Co. and Shanghai Municipal Investment Group, topped out at 1,550 feet (472 meters) last month, making it the world’s tallest residential building. It’s Extell’s ultra-luxury follow-up to One57, the skyscraper that touched off the city’s high-end construction boom—and set the stage for the market’s current slowdown. Extell began work on One57 less than a year after the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.—and in the absence of competition, sold $1 billion of condos in six months. The result was a race to the sky of ultra-luxury towers across Manhattan and the creation of a “Billionaires’ Row” on 57th Street, where the priciest of those units are concentrated.

The Nike section is covered in red velvet and has red surveillance cameras taking videos of the shoes customers trek in with, displaying them on video screens for all to see. It could serve as an incentive for people to buy new shoes, one store employee said.

Beauty services were ramped up for this store, with more than 210 services available such as hair blowouts, waxing and face massages. The retailer often touts that it’s the largest employer of tailors in the U.S., and customers at this newest location can come in with pants and dress alterations. Denim items can be customized as well, and customers can bring in jeans and jackets, even those they didn't buy in the store. Digital screens advertise other services such as same-day delivery, and mobile charging stations are available throughout the store.

Another way the store is keeping shoppers to stay longer is by allowing booze to flow freely—only on the floors with liquor licenses, of course. Customers are able to order martinis and other alcoholic beverages to be delivered to them on five of the seven levels as they try on shoes or clothes. Food and beverage make up one in four transactions, and that number is on the rise, according to Vincent Rossetti, vice president of restaurant operations.

The skyline looks awesome from this airport, wow! Crazy how the towers in billionaires row stick out, omg. They make all the rest of the skyscrapers look like babies. Can't wait to see what it looks like from that location with all the current proposed 1,400+ footers

The skyline need absolutely to build a megatall and the right place for it is time squre.

All NYC supertalls visible.

I wish this was higher resolution though.

Yup. Would definitely look better with a spire. Still holding out a tiny bit of hope Barnett will give us something.

In case the spire comes back ,it will be so huge cause this is what this tower miss right now .

I asked this before & i don't know if it was answered but can this building get an antenna/transmitter in the near future? Possibly up to the FAA limit?

They would have to file an amendment to the permits, and request an FAA study. Anything could be possible in theory. If they wanted to add a spire or mast for example, they would have to go through the proper channels to do so.

On a side note, while the FAA cap I believe is at 2000 ft, it could always be requested to go higher, just again, the FAA would have to review the proposal and deem in not a danger to flight patterns.

That would be a good height range too. A spire 1/3 of its height or about 500 ft would look out of place. 200-250 ft would be the sweet spot. IMO, enough to preserve aesthetics without being out of place like 4 Times Square (Conde Naste) for example.

I hope that barnett will push this building above 1800ft with add a spire at the end .

1820' would make it the tallest free-standing structure in the western hemisphere, taking the crown from the CN Tower at 1815' (although that one still has the highest occupied floor/observatory at 1465')...
