Fantastic photos, thank you for posting. The Azores certainly look scenic and interesting. Portugal is high on my list of places to visit. Have you visited Porto?

Your photos of Lisbon are gorgeous. One of my favorite cities in the world.

Gorgeous photos!
Many of the Portuguese people in Canada (and the US) originally came from the Azores. It's so beautiful it makes you wonder why anyone would want to leave. Things must have been pretty rough in the 60s and 70s. |
Thanks guys :)

Yeah, I believe the majority (or at least a healthy plurality) of Toronto's already-substantial Portuguese population is Azorean; and the result of that is quite palpable there. It seemed like everyone we spoke to either had family in Toronto, or had lived there themselves, went to school there, or were otherwise well acquainted with the place; plus many Torontonians have moved back or retired there. Random people on the street were wearing Toronto sports gear, and there was even a store in Ponta Delgada named Armazem Toronto. It was kind of interesting, as I've never seen this city figure so prominently in the local consciousness of a foreign country - and as much as I know about the Azoreans here, I didn't expect the connection to be so strong over there. |
Great pictures  Lisbon is my favourite European city I am craving pastel de nata right now.
Tourist wise Lisbon is a ghost town compared to places like Barcalona |
Fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing! Been to Lisbon only one time, now wanna come back to bad!

Beautiful!

Incidentally, Montreal's Portuguese population is only about half the size of Toronto's, but it's big enough to see some demographic splits. The Azorean community is concentrated on the Plateau while the mainland Portuguese community is based further north, around Villeray. |
Azores + Lisbon + fantastic photos = great enjoyment

Nice pictures! I don't think I've ever seen the Azores on here.
What are the details on flying to the Azores? Did you do it from Toronto? Was it direct? How much was the flight? |
Great pics! I feel like almost everyone I know has been travelling to Portugal lately and have heard lots of good things (plus now have some canned seafood from there in my cupboard). This is my first time seeing the Azores though - looks beautiful. They sometimes get a bad rap in Toronto, as I'm sure you're familiar with living in Little Portugal.

Yeah, there are daily direct flights between Toronto and Ponta Delgada. Round-trip was about $500, though we only did one-way, which I think was around $300. Quote:
Ha, the Azorean stereotypes are… not completely undeserved. It's quite isolated and doesn't have a particularly strong economic base - the GDP per capita is closer to that of Mexico than to mainland Portugal, for example - and it shows a little bit. In many of the towns, you'll see a lot of these groups of men that just kind of stand around on the street all day doing nothing in particular, aside from drinking and staring at whoever goes by (same kinda guys you might see at the sketchy Toronto sports bars - just a lot more of 'em). Case in point: https://goo.gl/maps/A1vKFMHd3eJ2. Not that they cause any trouble or anything, of course, but it's apparent that the economic situation there isn't great for a lot of people. Definitely still a beautiful, idyllic place though; with a super diverse landscape - especially considering the island of São Miguel is only a little bit larger than the City of Toronto and manages to have everything from subtropical forests to hot springs to rolling hills to volcanic rock, beaches, lakes, and pine forests crammed in there. And the food is amazing. |
Beautiful landscapes with the fog. I also like those sloping tiny streets. That photo looking down onto the winding street by the sea is great. Same with the photo of the guys in the window looking down onto the street at night.

The fog in some of the Azores photos is impressive.
The Lisbon portion is a great mix of overviews and street views, thank you! |
Beautiful photos. Impressed by the landscape of the Azores, and fond memories of Lisbon. Thanks.

Spectacular, great tour...

Beautiful scenery!

Outstanding! I loved Lisbon but it looks like I need to visit northern Portugal too because your pictures are amazing!
