Couldn't agree more. I was a bit meh on both of these projects when they were initially proposed. They are currently among my favorite towers going up in the city right now.

As a resident of the South Loop, I also agree. Hopefully this will give the neighborhood a little more character. Though I love living there, I constantly admit that it's very bland in terms of personality. The buildings themselves might not do the trick, but the influx of people and the corresponding restaurants might.

If only you could step back to '79 , bland was not a word the we used to describe the South Loop.

Agreed the south loop deserves better architecture. It's still missing that one building that everybody would look at and be like "oh yea that's the south loop" I don't even think Grant Park is it (maybe with Phase 2 then it would look like behemoth) For example. Presidential Towers, Sears Tower, Trump Tower, John Hancock, Tribune Tower, Crain Communications Building. All these towers have their own part of town.

If the South Loop/Near South Side can keep getting gems like this and OGP it'll be as wonderful to walk through in 10 years as any part of the city.

So far this one is surprising me and turning out better than I expected.
Largely due to that glass which looks great.

How many floors left?

It looks like they're 30-31 floors up out of 47. So they're just about 2/3 of the way up.

I'm really digging those concave corners... this one will be a stunner once its done.

Still holding out hope for a 12' flagpole on the roof of this thing :)

This is very well executed. Props to all involved, and a special thank you to all the exceptional photographers on the forum.

I drove past this yesterday. It looks great. I would love to see one of the sections considerably taller than the other to give it more of a "Vista" feel but it will be a great addition to the South Loop none the less.

We're going to have to clone more :gkwillie:`s to keep up with demand!

We don't have much geographical variation in Illinois. So we build them.

The impact this will have from Grant Park is huge. It fills a void and continues the wall of buildings around the corner to the Michigan Ave wall.

You have to go pretty far to find a hill taller than the Sears Tower. I think possibly Northern Minnesota (the highest points of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan are all lower)

Mt Avron in the UP of Michigan is the closest I believe. 1,979 feet.

Good call, however Chicago sits at roughly 600 feet above sea level so by that measurement Sears is no less than 2,050 feet tall

If antennae/spires count Trump Tower is almost 2,000 feet as well! Great to finally put behind us this whole New York vs Chicago thing. Because Denver clearly has the tallest skyscrapers :notacrook:
