I have to say I officially love this tower!
|
This is going to be incredible. WOW!
|
Very elegant design. Wish this would be there in November during my trip. Beautiful tower and original too. :worship:

OK, now this together with the Tower Verre... It looks just like the plot diagram indicated, the tower integrated with Steinway Hall, and the main shaft in the center of the lot. I also think the crown complements the crown on One57. More looks from JDS Development... http://jdsdevelopmentgroup.com/portf...t-57th-street/ http://jdsdevelopmentgroup.com/wp-co...5-983x1024.jpg http://jdsdevelopmentgroup.com/wp-co...4-1024x693.jpg Resized... http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152655079/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152655101/original.jpg |
WOW, this will looks so classy. 57th is on a roll!

also, is southern exposure more desirable for terraces? |
^ Maybe.
It's closer to officially being a united lot of 111 West 57th Street... http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/BS...de=ES879363319 http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/BS...de=ES386573685 A look at some of the interior landmarking of Steinway Hall... http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152656545/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152656546/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152656547/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152656548/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152656549/original.jpg |
If the middle section of Steinway is not landmarked I don't understand the hesitation to make the tower wider, bringing it in line with the western edge of the Steinway lot. This seems a no brainier to me, it makes possible a wider, less scary thin tower and adds units, which means more $.

BTW, that 9 ft model of the tower will be on display beginning this month at the skyscraper museum downtown. http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/152655101/medium.jpg http://www.skyscraper.org/EXHIBITION...H/sky_high.htm SKY HIGH & the logic of luxury Opens October 9th, 2013 through April 19th, 2014 http://skyscraper.org/EXHIBITIONS/SK...wers%20Web.jpg Quote:

I absolutely love this design, hope to see it start to rise sooner than later.

This was posted over at the WNY forum by Derek2k3 by way of SHoP Architects: http://www.shoparc.com/
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5527/1...87b037bc_b.jpg WNY forum by Derek2k3 by way of SHoP Architects: http://www.shoparc.com/. It gives a good idea of what the side facade will look like. If you look closely to the straight side (right side of the picture) it looks like the glass will be separated at each individual floor. I like that. |

I was worried because I really liked the original 600ft+ design, but this is definitely better. It's going to look amazing with the other supertalls at from Central Park.
Hopefully they add a nice lighting scheme to this to make it shine... |
OMG. This just became my favorite project in NY.

Delicious

Best looking building in the world since the early 1930s and a true masterpiece of architecture far as I'm concerned. This tower will be a sight to behold and it could become the 5th main landmark in the city along with the ESB, WTC, Chrysler building and the Statue of Liberty.
:notacrook: |
^Agreed.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. I find that SHoP is proving themselves to be the McKim, Mead & White of 21st-Century New York. Both in the sense that the amount of work they're turning out is reaching prolific levels, and in the fact that their style is unique and uniquely New York. The more the merrier.
|
Stunning indeed! There was a time when Tower Verre was the next greatest skyscraper in NYC by a long shot, but with this one and 56 Leonard, it has some company. TV is still my favorite but the marging is a bit thinner. Kudos to SHOP tho, that's quite a design!

The meeting at LPC was today for the decision about the modifications to Steinway Hall...

And I have to agree with the others, what a brillant design / facade. |
It looks great, it really does. The new images really give the structure a sense of realism. No clue the facade was going to look like that!
|
Now we need a closeup of the facade at the CP-facing side.
|
That facade is impressive!

Well, we did get this bit of info when the design was first revealed: Quote:

Landmarks Won't Oppose SHoP's West 57th Street Tower Tuesday, October 1, 2013, by Jeremiah Budin Quote:

It's going to look weird seeing this reach 1,350ft but only in a thin flat spire form, while 432 Park is occupied building all the way to the top.
|
Wow, I love it.

Stupid woman, as if she's going to exchange land with JDS to build the tower. Glad to see enough people had their senses about them. But I hope they don't change the height of the glass frontange on 57th. It's impressive, and the scale gives a hint of the impressive tower that rises behing it. http://jdsdevelopmentgroup.com/wp-co...5-983x1024.jpg |

Yeah because if you're at Sheep Meadow you'll have to crank your neck back quite a bit for this one. |
Beautiful. I even love this more than Tower Verre
|
This one won the "day of the supertall" yesterday in New York.

I, too, would like to see the slope at the top face towards Central Park, but really that is a minor issue with the design. Overall I love it. |
Very nice and classy design, in contrary to Nordstrom tower.

That being said, due to the prominence in the skyline of 255 W57th, I find its design more offensive than Kafuman's street killing budget hotels. Thank you SHoP for salvaging 57th St with your design, as mediocre One 57th and DREADFUL 255 W57th seek to ruin it. |
Very nice and original design. The only thing better would be if they increased the height enough to surpass 225 W 57th, say, 1450 ft.
|
^YES! they should do that, it is simple and ART DECO-ish. It is definitely the most beautiful NYC tower in decades. #awesome

There won't be that many units here above One57's height. Maybe about five.
|
crap, i'm blown away. judging by the model alone this might become king of NY scrapers.
