Hard to believe it's been over 4 & 1/2 years since I started this thread.
I thought this would have been under construction or close to completion by now.

chris08876 Jun 17, 2022 4:42 PM

Good news Bobdreamz is that Waldorf will soon follow as well. Right next to NYC, Miami is a solid #2 pumping out the skyscrapers.

chris08876 Jun 18, 2022 9:10 PM

I believe some of the lots will have something rise.

Dale Jun 18, 2022 9:28 PM

I had forgotten what a wasteland that area was. Obviously filling up now.

Zapatan Jun 18, 2022 10:20 PM

Nice! Soon the supertalls will hopefully be on the way.

Altoic Jun 20, 2022 2:28 AM

Sources have said this will be the tallest pool in the U.S.

Altoic Jun 26, 2022 5:06 PM

Keep a look out for the Okan Tower's Instagram page for construction updates.

Okan Tower Getting 1,000-Foot Construction Cranes, Utilities Deal Signed

Quote:

Plans have been filed with the Federal Aviation Administration to install two cranes at the Okan Tower construction site in downtown Miami.

The October 5 filing also detailed the permanent height planned for Okan Tower.

The first construction crane is planned to rise 1010 feet above ground, or 1023 feet above sea level.

The second crane is planned to rise 975 feet above ground, or 988 feet above sea level.

A permanent tower height of 893 feet above ground, or 906 feet above sea level is planned, the filing states.

On October 26, the developer completed a deal with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.

According to the new agreement, Okan Tower will include:

399 residential units
316 hotel rooms
67,588 square feet of office
2,690 square feet of coffee shop
305 square feet of retail
The connection fee is estimated at $666,594.36. There’s also a Biscayne Basin Sanitary Sewer Special Connection Charge of $404,343.46.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the 70-story tower was held in June, and foundation work has been underway since then.

Reason it appears to be stalled, but its not:

" Extra testing of the piling for cement density. Okan surpassed the testing. Piling should be completed by mid April and then the pouring can start. "

I hope not, Miami's bitten off a lot in terms of new towers, as in there are three new tallests U/C but I hope they can all still be built no problem. The demand is there it seems.

Would've expected this to be further along but still hopeful.

Altoic Jul 21, 2023 6:41 PM

The answer is it's stalled for now.

On NOV 21 2022 it was put on hold with a stop work order by the City of Miami. From the looks of it, permits weren't finalized and they said fck it and started drilling. I may be wrong for the specific reason, but what's sure is the permitting is put on hold.

Bummer...

Wonder if it will ever see the light of day. How on earth did they think they were going to get away with that? Sounds like the developers aren't too experienced.

Zapatan Jul 23, 2023 12:19 PM

How did sales go? Well I’m assuming if it broke ground.

KevinFromTexas Jul 23, 2023 11:52 PM

Good grief. This is the first time I've seen this one. What a beautiful building. Hopefully, they can get it built without any changes to the design or it being cancelled.

I think sales have gone well, but there arent any official numbers from what I've seen. The sales gallery on social media always seems lively. Hopefully they can fix their permitting and go vertical soon.

Do you have any diagrams from the City of Miami, including section and elevation drawings that you can post here.

Yikes,

Guess this won't be happening? The windstorm part is a little unnerving, especially in Miami.

Altoic Sep 27, 2023 1:55 AM

I believe it will still happen, but will require extensive time and revision. I don't know if the permit flagged refers to wind problems as it's pretty general. It does show that Miami takes permit violations and safety very seriously, which is always a positive. But hopefully this moves forward.. would be a bummer.

colemonkee Sep 27, 2023 2:13 AM

That's from nearly over a year ago. Piling was continuing in the first half of 2023, so that information appears to be out of date.

Altoic Sep 27, 2023 3:09 AM

There are no finalized construction permits for this tower, and it's listed on a hold work order. No permits were pulled either. Not much people knew it began to stall late last year, but it's indicative from the lack of updates from nov-march on this page. I wish I was wrong, but the tower broke ground in June of 2022 with drilling beginning around Aug of 2022. Regardless, the site has no activity by recent photos.

Okan Tower was put on a stop work order on Nov 21, 2022 according to iBuild.

There are two foilio violations issued on Nov 23, 2022.

This is the site on Sept 1st.

A far cry from last year.

Zapatan Sep 27, 2023 3:13 AM

None of this sounds good but I at least hope Waldorf goes through as well as One Brickell.

If those two new tallests got built it would make up for it.
