SSP Competition: SSP City Masterplan

Well we haven't had a competition in a while and the last one just disappeared off people's minds.

So our new comp is the SSP City V2.0 Masterplan. Each person can enter up to 2 masterplans. We'll vote on our favorite of each contestant. Then we'll eliminate the losing masterplan create a new thread for the remaining ones.

Rules:
-Each person may enter up to 2 masterplans.
-The city should not be larger than 1200x1200 meters (4000x4000 ft)
-The map should include roads, bridges, rail, etc...
-It should be colored to represent height restrictions and such (ex. Red=500-1000, Blue=50-100). Please use the same colors on both of your entries.
-It should also be labeled with landscape height. (If you want hills). Please use green lines to represent each height increase and green numbers to label them.
-Do not post your entry on this thread. Private Message your entries to me.
-Lines that represent streets are fine but please remember that streets can be wide or thin.

Recommendations:
-Please make realistic sized blocks. (90x90 meters or 300x300 ft max). They can be wide and thin, rectangular or square.
-If you plan to include a historic district then make the historic blocks smaller than the rest of the city. The streets should be a little thinner as well.
-Office blocks with large skyscrapers should be large.
-Mega blocks can also be put in for convention centers, parks, etc.

Deadline: All entries should be submitted by Wednesday September 8. If we need more time it could be extended to the 10th.

I hope we get this sub forum going again! Can't wait to see what comes up. Hopefully my rules and explanations are clear :P

Sounds like a good plan :)

At this stage we can also begin developing buildings for the city although because the land will have elevated terrain it'd be an idea to leave the lower levels unfinished untill the landcape is ready.

Flamesrule Sep 2, 2010 7:49 PM

I'm in for sure!

.

This is all well and good but are you gonna get
the the buildings week after week to fill the city??

Aleks Sep 4, 2010 4:42 AM

we'll figure that out later.

but is anyone working on their entry? if you plan on entering this comp say it so in this thread please so i know whether i should extend the deadline or not.

prometheuspan Sep 4, 2010 8:08 AM

neat, i will have two master plans, a hex city and a radial symmetry arcology.

just out of curiosity, can i start my own competitions? i had some ideas...

Flamesrule Sep 4, 2010 11:27 AM

I started mine yesterday. I'm probably half done already, but it took me 3 hours. But I'm doing the sidewalks streets and everything! It's tkaing me forever!

Flamesrule Sep 5, 2010 4:06 PM

Aleks can we put the entry due date to the 10th? This map is taking me forever and I don't think I'll have time to 2 maps and sumbit them in the 8th.

prometheuspan Sep 6, 2010 12:21 AM

actually, somehow i thought we were a whole month off.

I don't have time for this this week.

I am putting in whole forums per state and then prolly major cities where i am an admin at RBEF, and my explosion of new forums there demands that i give that the lions share of my attention.

October on the other hand will be a whole different matter.

I just submitted my two entries. Just basic city layouts so far, but detail should be easy to add. Hope youll like them when the poll starts ;)

Flamesrule Sep 7, 2010 8:15 PM

I just sumbited my entry. I didn't have the time for 2 though. Is that still ok Aleks?

Aleks Sep 8, 2010 12:36 AM

so i only have 4 entries so from 3 different people. only 1 person submitted two plans.

do you guys think i should extend the deadline till monday?

i too wanna enter something but i've been busy (and lazy :P). i'll get on mines right away!

Tolbert Sep 8, 2010 8:25 AM

If you extend the deadline I would add some detail to my entries. If thats still possible ?

Innsertnamehere Sep 8, 2010 11:30 AM

i might make a very basic one tonight...

Flamesrule Sep 8, 2010 12:00 PM

I'm starting another detailed later tonight too.

I'm not in school now cuz I have a eye appointment.

Tolbert Sep 8, 2010 3:13 PM

Are you sure its good for you siting in front of a computer with an eye appointment ?

Flamesrule Sep 8, 2010 3:17 PM

lol I wasn;t on the computer(until now) I was just logged on.

Also the eye appointment does start until 12:00.

prometheuspan Sep 9, 2010 5:37 PM

I have just been too busy lately to participate. If it was another month longer I'd submit two entries. As it is I'm walking out the door for the weekend...
So...

As soon as i get some work out of the way my primary responsibilities to RBEF
will drift back towards design and etc to drive that aspect of the organization,
and that will resynchronize to where i am doing work appropriate to share here.

When that happens i will have a lot to share.

I just lengthened the forum list over there x 10 and it still has work to do and i need to put content in some of these new forums.

But soon I will be designing an RBEF city- which means egalitarian next generation low impact self sufficient living- permaculture, aquaculture, vertical
farms, and etc.
