^ and again, you have to think of the davis family that owns the raiders. these are bay area millionaires, they're not going to move their organization to texas or somewhere weird because they don't want to spend time in those places. los angeles or san diego make sense because it's a short flight and a good standard of living while there. i'd consider raiders to san diego to be a lot more plausible than raiders to san antonio.

Have you read anything about Davis? He's not his Dad. He's not trying to be a GM or a coach. He's not all about the day to day.

After they move to Texas and the value of their team jumps $500M, I am sure he can suffer through the private jet flights to and from his home in the bay area. That or he sells the team.

I have read nothing that says he is all about owning a NFL team and the team is really their only asset.

You're right in nobody really knowing what Mark Davis will do. I read another profile that he drives a 1997 minivan and uses a flip phone. Guy is out there a bit.

That said, it does not feel like he 'belongs' in the ownership group. The new class of owners are not the same as who his Dad pushed around and those that remain remember how much of a pain this franchise has been.

If I were a betting man and if what I am reading that the relocation fee would be waived due to passing on LA and there is a new stadium waiting in SA.....I think he moves the team and then turns around and sells it.

Forbes says the Raiders are worth $1.4B and that's in Oakland. Put them in a new stadium in the 7th biggest city in the US and who knows how much they would go for....

Davis has plenty of reasons to drop his team right between San Antonio and Austin. The two cities would offer his team over 2.3 million football-hungry sports fans. His players would enjoy a state without income taxes.



So essentially, the Raiders would be moving to somewhere near New Braunfels and San Marcos, feeding off the fan and (more importantly) corporate populations of both Austin and San Antonio. The Texas Hill Country isn't a bad place to be forced to live.

The Raiders' silver and black just so happens to match the Spurs' silver and black. There's some nice symmetry there... :)

While Davis already owns land here, Austin is home to the University of Texas, which is practically a religion in the State of Texas. I'm not sure how much you can expect when you're going against that each weekend. UT has like 110K fans each weekend.

I would think that just might be chip to play but not the final spot. At least that's the hand I would play.

From what I am reading there is no shortage of sites in the city and both the Mayor and Chamber President are going 'all in' trying to get a team.

Also, Oakland reporters are saying that Davis is showing signals of having no intention in keeping the team in Oakland.

Frankly, I wouldn't be concerned about that at all. There's plenty of football love to go around out there. E.g., high school football is also a religion in central TX (and throughout the state), and it's not hurt one bit by Austin's UT fanaticism. It's football country and there's plenty of interest in the football that's played on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Red McCombs is working to get the Raiders out there and said there are a number of sites in San Antonio that would work for a new stadium, so I agree; they may not be sewing up any New Braunfels Raiders uniforms just yet.

Ya. Read that. Also read that Jones may have been forced to back off that demand when he was whipping votes for STL moving to LA.

Even if they don't move there...it's not going to be the San Diego Raiders....

Not sure if that's true or not, but I would hope the city council would say it needs a vote. Faulconer pledged a public vote, I don't think the Carson mayor ever made that pledge. I think if the Chargers manipulated this so public funds are used and the people don't get a say, it will backfire on them and cause this whole thing to get even more messy with the public feeling bypassed by something we've been promised we would vote on for over a year. Also, I can't imagine any city council member would want to face the political implications of shoving this through w/o a vote.

^^ 45 Floors nice! Why not just build a mini convention center expansion along with this hotel and then JMI do their mega 1200 - 1600 room hotel with tons of space at the bottom of it and call it a day? Shouldn't that be enough space to appease comic con and other conventions? What else has JMI proposed for their PETCO parking lot space besides a CC annex? (Not talking about lot with huge hotel proposal but the parcel directly adjacent to bus depot)

Does anyone know if the Hilton on the bay by the CC is still thinking of building a second tower or is this dead?

The last I remember on it was building a second tower over the parking structure was the plan. So many of these projects get delayed or die it's hard to keep up.:uhh:

As someone that works for Hilton, I know it's planned. They're still holding to the 30 story (same height as the Bayfront tower), 500 rooms that will add additional meeting space to make it the largest on the West Coast. I know it was planned to be open by 2019, however it is contingent on the Convention Center. More than likely, it will be built.

God, for real! That sail design was awful.

I love this design of the hotel and the public space plus cheap "hostel" accomodations along the side. Don't think Coastal Commission is going to go for this design though because if you look at it the public walkway along bay goes under the tower. How long will that walkway be closed off for while construction is underway? 2 years? That is not going to fly, a temporary access issue is one thing but a 45 floor tower is a major project and it is literally built right on top of what is now a public pedestrian right of way.

So if what SDfan says is correct and and Comic Con threatening to leave is just posturing and a bargaining tool for room rates/concessions do you guys think we even need a CC expansion or annex on JMI land? Do you think the project above plus Marrriot's new space plus space under a huge JMI hotel will be enough for San Diego?
