I walked by the site this past Saturday. Sorry guys, I didn't take pictures, but I can give a verbal update.

Significant digging is in full swing. I would say they are already a good 12 feet down, as the cabin roof of the excavator is now level with the sidewalk.

That confirms what I saw when I walked past the sight a week or so ago. I was in a hurry, and just glimpsed in, but wasn't expecting to see much which is why I wasn't prepared to take a picture. Someone will get it.

I am looking forward to hearing more about Stern's new acquisitions-hopefully he announces them shortly- very interested in seeing if he got something on the Lower or Upper East Side. Extell was first with One57, now Barnett is venturing both south and North - IMO areas where there is an opportunity to build towers geared toward the mid-luxury market ($3-8 million apartments)

It was kinda a tease hearing about those acquisitions. I'm expecting top notch quality. Something on the Lower East Side would be interesting. I'd like to see some height for that area.

Sounds like he's making more moves in Brooklyn, with Manhattan prices being what they are.

They've closed off the sidewalk, but you can see the falloff...

I am absolutely stunned at the number of 1000+ foot skyscrapers planned and under construction in NYC. Freaking amazing.

There are about 30 of them, visit New York Supertalls.

On topic: it seems they are making quick progress here. Expect piling in the next 2 weeks. :cheers:

There will be basically one unit per floor above 15, with the upper units being duplex units occupying two floors.

Why is only one guy working on this tower? Any word when construction/excavation will begin?

Last I saw it, excavation had begun. What day did you take the photo?

The photo is from 8.30.14, you are right some kind of excavation is progressing but very slowly like there is literally only one guy working there.

Excavation here is going extraordinarily slow. However, the appearance of scaffolding in the back is encouraging. Maybe they'll finally start demo'ing the facade around the courtyard.

^ They stated that it would be a time consuming process, which was why they wanted approval to begin that work as soon as possible. I'm sure they are working around guidelines.



If you took it on a weekend, you were lucky to find anyone there. Most of these sites aren't really active on the weekends, which makes taking photos easier, but you don't always see work in progress.

Anyway, the structural engineer (of so many of these buildings) WSP list this building as 426 M, which is about what everyone has been suggesting, or close to 1,400 ft.

Depends on how you look at it. That lot is only the portion of the site where the tower overlaps. This is being built as an addition to Steinway Hall (the covered building), which is a landmark. Landmarks signed of on this, and even complimented the design.

The tower itself will be integrated within the rest of the building. But it won't be a process as fast as knocking over a building, and starting from scratch.
