Montesano, WA
Montesano is the county seat for Grays Harbor County in Washington State, which has a population of around 75,000. The town has a population of around 3,500, but feels larger due to its location between Olympia and Aberdeen. It's not nearly as depressing or derelict as Aberdeen, and is quite a quaint little place.

I'll begin with some of the commercial buildings downtown:

An old theatre, now an evangelical church

I like this new Anchor Bank branch

Fire Department

The Transit Center

Montesano's Post Office

Looking towards the city's crown jewel - the Grays Harbor County Courthouse

City Hall

The United Methodist Church

St. John's Roman Catholic Church

And finally, the courthouse itself

Some are showing, and look great, but most aren't showing (flikr).

Looks like a cute piece of real-estate.

I'm seeing them now. That's one hell of a courthouse.

I have to say that the Grays Harbor County Courthouse is quite a looker indeed. It looks so dignified and, dare I say, handsome. You can tell that the people who built the courthouse thought that this county would become one of the west coast's major urban centers... Grays Harbor is quite an amazing (and big) natural harbor and because of that, the settlers and their contemporaries thought that they could easily build cities that would rival and even surpass San Francisco, let alone the state's own heavyweight, Tacoma (Seattle wasn't yet dominant in the late 1880s/1890s).

Nice tour. I go by Montesano when heading out to the coast so I am familiar with it. Some people ask about moving to the Aberdeen area and I always recommend they check out Montesano. It doesn't have all the rough edges Aberdeen and Hoquiam have but it's still not that far from the coast.
