Remus city, version four!

Well, I started having a lot of trouble with that huge river:hell:

So I changed it:)

It was such a big change that I thought it counts as new version...

It's not too bad, I have all the different parts of the city on layers, so I can hid

the polygons!

And thanks for liking it:)

Do you have a sketchup city?

Skydragon42 Sep 24, 2015 10:48 PM

Well, I'm sad to say Remus city is no more:(

I can't get sketchup pro 2014 to revert to the free version, and can't find a download for the free version!

The newest version is not compatible with my computer:X

It won't even let me view the file!

Which is really unfair!

I guess it basically gone now:(

Maybe many years from now if I get a new computer I'll be able to get a new version and hopefully it will still accept my old file!

BillM Sep 25, 2015 1:21 PM

I really enjoy viewing your city. There has got to be a way to get a version of sketchup that will be compatible. You'll probably work it out sooner than you think.

Meanwhile, I'm getting ready to post an update for my city soon.

Skydragon42 Sep 26, 2015 1:09 AM

Well, sorry for my drama:(

But I got sketchup back:D

And I have a new section of my city to show!

The oceanfront city!

The skyline.

A tall building inspired by the Burji kalafa!
And I know I spelled that wrong, but don't have time!

A nondenominational church!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pswqb3xrlf.png

Those tall towers by the ocean side are all residential, like Dubai!

Actually, most of the buildings in this section are residential!

And I almost forgot! Here is the new section in the city!

Tell me what you think!

Thats all for now of the city that never ends!

BillM Oct 21, 2015 2:25 PM

I'm happy to see that Remus City is growing.

I like that three skyline view! I am waiting to see the infill between the skylines.

Vellu Oct 31, 2015 7:25 PM

Looks like Remus City has grown a lot since I last checked! It is huge, although I'm not sure copy-pasting city blocks is the right way to go. It could end up looking a bit monotonous.

I like the concept of three skylines and those skylines look quite interesting in their combination of shapes and colours.

I'm only using each block fifteen times, then I make a new one!

I'm experimenting with fog and shadows now...
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pswv9rgjyz.png

I'm adding one last section of skyscrapers, It will be part of midtown!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psr987oyvf.png

After that I have to do the low-rise districts, with lower density on how far they are from the city center, the industrial district, the marina and the airport!

Tell me what you think!

BillM Nov 6, 2015 5:18 AM

I am looking forward to seeing more of your images with the shadows and fog.

Codster121 Nov 8, 2015 2:46 PM

I like how big your city is so far, and i really like those glass skyscrapers.

Here is a tip: If you want to go for realism, you might want to have multiple buildings per block, 4-6 skyscrapers per block, or more depending on the zoning density. And you may want large avenues connecting skyscraper clusters, or to go throughout your city. And maybe the mid-rise area could have small clusters of 200 to 400ft skyscrapers. Also you should build the airports a few miles from the clusters of skyscrapers.

I will hopefully update Lakeport soon with version 5.0, it is going to use photo-realistic textures, which means i can bring back buildings from previous versions.

Skydragon42 Nov 14, 2015 2:53 AM

Midtown district is in progress!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pshg4xwio3.png
My crazy architecture has returned!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps88edcdha.png
Several great towers!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1gzqb5m8.png
Because this is the last high-rise district, I'm pulling out all the stops of my architecture.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psko4drfol.png
Those low rise buildings are a sort of market place for antiques!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps01ucmgml.png
The Remus city convention center! It like McCormick place, but with built in office towers!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psybxekl1w.png
Weird skyscrapers...
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psksrdhdxe.png
The sub-pyramid! A residential building!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps89ewhrxv.png
Thats all for now!

I'm not going to do shadows and/or fog with unfinished sections of the city.

Please tell me what you all think!

BillM Nov 16, 2015 4:08 PM

Midtown has some uniquely shaped buildings!

I am trying to figure out where Midtown is in relation to the other parts of the city. Perhaps a map is in order.

Skydragon42 Nov 21, 2015 10:01 PM

My vision of Remus City is starting to take shape!
The central area is ringed by parks and forest preserves!
Here is the city's first above ground cemetery! before it, everyone was buried in the catacombs! unlike the grid streets above them, the catacombs are a maze of crisscrossing tunnels and chambers! much of it is uncharted as there where no regulations!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psy29krgwl.png
Here is a large park and a forest preserve! If I could, I would make a full scale forest, and since the city is an on island off the coast of Brazil, it would be like the Amazon!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psjzleumrs.png
Here is the city so far!
I don't know how to make a map...
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pswpyxihte.png
Although its four districts, everyone just calls it Midtown.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ch7qf3f.png
This is what would happen if Roman engineering and development had never been interrupted...
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psnvifbybu.png
An urban canyon in the new midtown district.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psda5a3giz.png
Here is another mega complex! Diamond corp. center!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psgsa1sgn9.png
Buildings jumbled together...
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pssbrvefki.png
Old fashioned twin skyscrapers!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psxbr51d44.png

Thats all there is for now...But Theres something special in development!

Tell me what you think!

Skydragon42 Dec 13, 2015 2:47 AM

I've made a sort of upper Manhattan/Bronx like area around Uptown!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psl3byuptz.png
There are many residential low-rise apartments, and a few mid-rise buildings.

Here is a view of those skylines!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psqag33mst.png

Here is Uptown from the park, that building in the center is fifteen hundred feet tall!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...pshr66ahoh.png
Thats All. Tell me what you think!

BillM Dec 15, 2015 5:14 PM

I really like the view of those skylines (2nd to last pic) with the lowrise buildings in the foreground.
What I would like to see in your Upper Manhattan/Bronx area is a little more randomness....possibly a building here and there that is a little taller than the rest.

Skydragon42 Dec 27, 2015 10:39 PM

I have a big new section of the city!

Central Park!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7rqpccqv.png
This is the city's core area.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8plqsv5k.png
I tried to make a view like you always see from new york of central park.
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9ajflhlk.png
The view from the north!
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...psfsnrjdde.png

Thats all I have time to post now, so tell me what you think

BillM Jan 6, 2016 4:21 PM

Looking good! I don't see those white lines you are talking about.

I hope you do a map soon. If you don't want to see your buildings in it, there is an easy way to do it if your city is flat.
a) select "Top" from Camera/Standard Views
b) zoom down till you are just a few feet above the ground
c) select "Parallel Projection" from Camera
d) zoom out to get desired view

Vellu Feb 14, 2016 6:54 PM

The fog and shadows really help in terms of realism. Those skyline shots look great and the fog emphasizes the massiveness of the city! Sweet!
