European Concert Halls

LSO St Lukes (Jerwood Hall), Old Street, Islington, London - used by the LSO for rehearsals, recording educational outreach and smaller more intimate performances than those at the nearby Barbican. LSO St Lukes carries out a similar purpose to the Henry Wood Hall in South London where the London Philharmonic Orchestra rehearse and record works.

The Guildhall School of Music is constructing a new studio and new 610 seat Concert Hall as part of the Milton Court scheme near the Barbican (see thread in construction forum).

The Guildhall School recently embarked on a major building project to expand its facilities. Milton Court, based across the road from the current Silk Street building, will open in 2013, providing the School with state-of-the-art performance and teaching spaces including:

• a 610-seat Concert Hall
• a 225-seat Theatre
• a Studio Theatre
• three major rehearsal rooms
• TV studio suite
• Instrumentalists and singers will rehearse and perform in solo recitals, chamber ensembles and orchestras in the new Concert Hall, with top quality fully-adjustable acoustics and the largest audience capacity of any of the London conservatoire concert halls

Designed by architects David Walker, RHWL and Arts Team, Milton Court is part of a bigger development that includes private residential accommodation and mixes living and working spaces with the performing arts. It will put the Guildhall School at the heart of an internationally significant cultural and educational quarter, forming the hub for the School’s growing relationships with the LSO and the Barbican Centre. By 2013, the School’s facilities will at long last match the outstanding quality of its training and the success of its graduates.

The Rambert Dance company are constructing a new studio on the South Bank, replacing their current studio at Richmond Lock in Twickenham.

It would be nice to see a few European Halls posted by fellow forumers, the new concert halls in Paris is going to be magnificent, whilst Hamburg is building a stunning new concert hall, as is Copenhagen. There are also some magnificent grand old concert halls in Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna etc, that to be honest eclipse anything London has. Russia also has maginicent concert halls, whilst the Opera houses of Italy are world famous.

So please feel free to post your cities beautiful concert halls and opera houses, as I have posted London's and don't have the time to single handely post all the great concert halls of Europe :)

In terms of Great British Modern Musical Icons and Composers - RIP John Barry originally from York in England who died earlier this year and who will always be remembered for his stunning and atmospheric music :)

In terms of up and coming composers Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead fame) wrote the film soundtrack for 'There will be Blood', which was recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

One of the the greatest film scores of all time is Bernard Herrmann's Taxi Driver. Herrmann wrote some of the most famous film scores ever produced, from Orson Welles's Citizen Kane to Hitchcock's Vertigo through to Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver.

I doubt it will be completed next year, there were big delays. Works were frozen for almost half a year. it is only recently that activity resumed.
It is more likely to be completed in 2013.

PS : I think that you should post less pictures by post, it hard to see the page.
This can also explain why few people post here out of the fact that there are few european forumers in SSP.
