Love the texture the balconies provide. This is a great addition to Tempe, even more if it's not 100% student housing.

So many things wrong with this photo. What's with the pink on the building on the right? Gleaming mid-rises next to one of the uglier mountain-ettes in the Valley, Christmas camels still on in February. That's not an ideal view to have in Tempe.

I'm sure a wider angle is easier on the eyes.

It's interesting to see Tempe midrises getting less and less value engineered. That Marriott is a prime example of the beginning of the recovery.

I've been hoping ASU would renovate or at least paint the University Towers for a decade. Reindeer (camel) guy forgot to do his job this year :haha:

There are gleaming high-rises nearly surrounding A mountain, did you move away 15 years ago or something>?

I mentioned this specific photo, not one you have in your mind's eye from a different vantage point.

lol - mmhm.

Perhaps extrapolate on what exactly makes you feel "Gleaming mid-rises next to one of the uglier mountain-ettes in the Valley, Christmas camels still on in February." is indicative of "so many things wrong with this photo" . . .

I mean, the phrase starts with a capital "Gleaming" and ends in a period after the word "February" indicating this must be a "sentence" but is clearly an incomplete combination of two random observations with no further detail or connecting point or information . . . is it that the "camels" as you call them are unsightly? The fact that you think the hill is ugly? That the building "gleam"? Are "gleaming" buildings a good or bad thing? lol

Lots of questions based on your observation haha

Also - did you move away 15 years ago?

I agree with Ballister's observation. Ugly pink building, double tank gash on the mountain, Christmas camels. Where is he off base? Let's not forgot the f'n smog...

combusean Feb 28, 2018 3:26 AM

Those water tanks have been on a mountain for like 50 years. The last I checked the towers are just beige like everything else from that era...just in need of a power wash and the photo isn’t white balanced well.

And I get that these aren’t the best features, but they are far from anything new. There’s way more than there was a few years ago developed, And although I am definitely not alone and have a never really had much of an appreciation for the brown ugliness of the desert, there are a lot of people who do.

Always have the perspective.

The only thing I see bad about this photo is it is being viewed by a narrow lens that wouldn't show half of what the human eyes would see. Yea, there's a couple of water tanks on the mountain. Eh, doesn't bother me. I think Hayden Butte in between all of this urban development is one of the finer things of Tempe. Not a lot of cities have this kind of mix.

Oh for Pete's Sake people, I just was saying the photo wasn't the best vantage point. I know what's been built, I love downtown Tempe. I live here, not gone 15 years, etc. Just. the. fucking. photo.

Oh. That was lost in translation.

It is a crummy photo to use as an advertisement. Sorry.

I was on an architecture firms website and they had these renderings posted for the hotel component.

Thanks for the photos!

It doesn't seem like much time as passed since I was buying a bong from Headquarters right on that corner. It sucked that it was a parking lot for so long, but it all seems worth it now.

Street level presence on University is taking shape. I think it will be very well done.

The fence is down around most of the Union. I think the pedestrian experience all around the building will be very good.
