Persident Group comfirms 20 billions dollar investment for this development. |
There hasn't been much development over the past 5 years in the area around dream mall - the MRT station should have been linked directly to the mall instead of the shuttle service they currently offer.

dream mall, that amusement park, and that horrid new fo guang shan development are tremendous wastes of money that would have been better spent in the city center. kaohsiung needs better planning. it's falling behind taichung and taipei way too fast.

http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/5...r6hqag7srg.jpg Currently at Kaohisung City Center, there are four important projects surround it include Kaohisung Convention and Exhibition Center, Kaohisung Port Terminal, Kaohisung Pop Music Center and light rail. These projects have been approved by relevant authorities. Let's see what is going to happen in the future. And another project is under planning, Kaohisung Pearl. |
fo guang shan is what happens if disney was given a billion dollars to build a buddhist theme park. it is exaggerated, tacky, and commercialized.
why do so many taiwanese people seem to connect the size of their buddhist shrine to their devotion? this is what happens when some older generation taiwanese tycoons with way more money than taste suddenly develop a religious conscience. the younger generations of taiwan can't take control of their country any sooner. and i'm sure there are a number of good projects underway, but still, it is shocking to see the gap the has grown between kaohsiung and taipei in terms of progress. and kaohsiung pearl is still far from certain. much of it depends on how long the country's real estate bubble survives. |

For Kaohsiung Pearl, it is far from design stage. Still, this project is in good position which is between Kaohsiung Port Terminal and Kaohsiung Pop Music Center. |
noone is saying these people don't have the right to build ugly architecture. (well, maybe they don't - did you know this temple was built without a permit?)
but it deserves mention because unlike you, i recognize that taiwan is in desperate need for greater discussion of the importance of good urban planning and architecture, and i also recognize that taiwan does have a lot of people with good taste, but not a lot of money, and that these voices need to be heard too. |

It need people to realised that the city landscape will reform while new buildings are finished. Authorities, developers and people all have their own burden for what the city will look like in the future. People don't like what their city look like, then they should challenge it, not just complain everything like a opposition party in democracies. People should be encouraged to challenge poorly designed building. Just like what public do to urban redevelopment controversy. I would like to have same happen for city landscape or citycape development. Then these three elements can be reformed continually. The problem is it is very slow progress. We need catalyst. Like metal frame window and colourbond structure on roof top, I can see there is some revolution happen in Taipei that residents in lower floor challenges it and make a claim to court for anyone build it. And I can see residents live in large apartments complex form agreement to ban metal fram window and colourbond structure on the building. |
