Some interesting figures there.
Do you know if there's a way to manipulate the table to show yearly movement figures?
I can't seem to get it to sum the year's movements. And the other table I've used only has data to 2016. I'd like to add 2017 total movements for comparison.

You cant. I added the monthly figures to get the yearly total. StatsCan hasn't published the other table for full year figures yet. I'm assuming it's coming up shortly.

On a separate topic, I noticed AC is flying an A330-300 between YHZ and YUL on one of the daily flights. Is that new this year?

Seems to be related to cargo. Since YHZ-LHR is now on a Max 8, AC will ship the lobster to Europe via YUL.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you.

For those interested, Pearson is conducting studies about potential runway alternation and night time preferences in the attempt to minimise noise over certain neighbourhoods.

https://torontopearson.com/conversations

Personally I'm not a fan of the idea. I always believe the most appropriate runway based on winds and other runway conditions should always be selected. Irregardless of Joe Public that's moved into a house near the airport and is now complaining that airplanes are flying overhead.

Added 2017 aircraft movement list on wikipedia. Top 15 airports. A lot of changes in the rankings.

Biggest winner, YQB, which jumped up 3 spots. Biggest loser, YHU, dropped down 7 spots.

AC9/10 YYC-NRT has re-appeared on the schedule confirming it will be back for Summer 2019. Resumes March 23.

Still a thru flight originating from YYZ and still operated by a 763.

nname Apr 7, 2018 12:51 AM

I don't think AC work on their schedule that far out in the future though. It is probably just the same schedule as summer 2018.

After all, they still haven't finished all the changes for winter 2018 so far.

AC always loads the previous equivalent period as the next equivalent period’s schedule. Also AC is “retiring” most of their 763 mainline fleet by the end of 2019...so give it about 6 more months to see what’s finalised.

After some recent travel I have to say that the Montreal-Trudeau airport is WAY better than Toronto-Pearson but Pearson is still okay. Montreal's makes being delayed enjoyable. Great indoor playground for kids as well!

The schedule isn’t the same though.
March 2018 it was 5x weekly
March 2019 it is showing daily
And it wasn’t on the schedule at all just a few days ago. Of course further changes are very likely, but it’s good to see the route at least for now isn’t completely disappearing.

Like I said... AC does funny things with their schedules... they tend to dump in the prior season's schedule... so in this case summer 2019 mirrors 2018. Because summer 2019 is just too far out, the earliest period available would be March 2019. Trust me the spring/summer 2019 schedule is just way too far off to take seriously ATM. Either way I wouldn't read too much into it. Also, like I said the 763s will be gone in 2019... don't know the exact time frame but plenty of changes still to happen.

I just checked their schedules anyway and the first flight is showing starting 23 March and the first week it is only 5 weekly. So not sure about where you see daily in March.

Pearson is utilitarian to a fault but not much else. There's nothing about it that's beautiful, interesting, entertaining, engaging, etc. It couldn't get plainer if it tried. As the first impression of Toronto for many travelers it's a lost opportunity. Other big international airports around the world are purposely designed to be showpieces and to impress.

Good, I also loathe YYZ. And for YVR, the humidity of some areas makes it uncomfortable.

The food options in Montreal are far more interesting that YYZ.

I always leave room for Lester's Deli and one last smoked meat poutine before I leave!

I find Montreal's airport reflects much more about the city and province than does Toronto's...it's quite difficult to find good Canadian wine in the transborder area, for example. Yes, there is some but it ain't great!

Well, I will say that it's pretty good compared to most US airports, where they quite often look like a bunch of undersized 70s terminals laid end to end along a pick-up/drop-off lane. Denver is one of the few major exceptions where you have the airport built as a unitary whole from the ground up, and it sticks out as a result.

T1 was impressive when it first opened up in 2005, but now it's starting to feel cramped (considering YYZ's passenger growth) and kind of worn out. Now would be a good time for a significant expansion by GTAA.

One can often look quite good when comparing to similar things in the US. I haven't visited one of their airports in over 20 years but wouldn't be surprised if they're some of the worst.

I wasn't impressed with T1 in 2005 so I'm not going to like it more 13 years later. Now that it's at capacity, it's not doing anything well. Pearson is growing faster than their study projected so the expansion needs to happen sooner than planned.

Are they still planning to take down T3 and extend T1 north to where T3 currently sits? Or have plans changed with the developing goal of turning Pearson into a 'mega hub'?

There's plans to link T1 and T3 with a continuous building between the two. And also add another hammerhead pier to the south east of the current international pier. It can come soon enough. Pearson desperately needs more gates. Far too many aircraft are being parked as gate holds on the taxiways waiting for their gate to come open.
