Very impressive. How much would it change if it did include transborder?

In that case it would look like this:

YYZ - 159
YUL - 113
MIA - 106
JFK - 99
YVR - 67
ORD - 48
LAX - 41

No real surprise given that the U.S. has more cities to fly to and YYZ is the second largest port of entry into the States.

The breadth of the international network is really Pearson's strength. I don't know about most but I'll always pick a non stop flight if I can. I don't mind sitting in a cabin for 14h if that's all I'm doing. With the Rouge expansion into secondary European cities - YYZ undoubtedly has the best European network of any North American airport.

I don't know how Vancouver performs in the TPAC category, but I'm sure it's also at the top for network breadth.

I think the key difference between the international market from YYZ and YVR is Rogue and AirTransat. Nearly all of Europe is in range of a 767 or the older A330/A300.

Flying time out of Vancouver is longer and outside of Japan there are fewer viable destinations for Rogue. That means a route to a secondary city has to support a mainline Air Canada aircraft on the Canada side. There are a few foreign airlines that go after that VFR market (e.g., Philippine airlines, the Taiwan and China airlines).

I think it has more to do with market size, demographics, catchment area, and yield, not just Rouge or Air Transat's aircraft range.

I think they are tied together. Take out the leisure airlines from YYZ and the number of international destination cities goes down substantially.

I would not be surprised if there are a large number of unserved destinations in Asia and Australia have the demographics, catchment and yield that Rouge or Air Transat would find acceptable. The reason they don't go their is it is to far away to be served by a smaller wide body. A longer range wide body is either to expensive or oversized for the market.

A few updates from the past several months.

A demonstration traditional root cellar has been installed in the centre of YYT's main roundabout.

And displays detailing the history of flight in Newfoundland and Labrador, including Amelia Earhart and Alcock and Brown, have been added.

The airport has invited dozens of various music/spoken word performance groups and schools in the city to entertain travelers.

Air China increases PEK-YUL to 6x weekly. HAV stays 1 weekly.

So where did these extra slots come from? One seems to be from YVR, at least for the summer. How about the other one?

Source: airlineroute.net

Beijing – Montreal
eff 26MAR17 Including 1 weekly flight that extends to Havana, overall service increase from 4 to 5 weekly
eff 02JUL17 Increase from 5 to 6 weekly, Boeing 787-9 replaces 777-300ER
CA879 PEK1315 – 1400YUL 789 x56
CA880 YUL1600 – 1740+1PEK 789 x56

Beijing – Montreal – Havana eff 07JUL17 Boeing 787-9 replaces 777-300ER, 1 weekly
CA879 PEK1315 – 1400YUL1620 – 2005HAV 789 5
CA880 HAV1000 – 1330YUL1600 – 1740+1PEK 789 6

Beijing – Vancouver
CA991/992 eff 26MAR17 2-class 777-300ER replaces 3-class, 1 daily
CA997/998 21JUN17 – 29SEP17 Seasonal service reduced from 4 to 3 weekly (Overall from 10 to 9 weekly). 3-class 777-300ER operates until 31JUL17, switching to 2-class from 02AUG17

Air China seating configs, for anyone interested.

B789 293 seats (No F, 30J, 34PE, 229Y)
3-class B77W 313 seats (8F, 42J, 263Y) (currently used to YVR and YUL)
2-class B77W 392 seats (no F, 36J, 356Y)

Further proof that Canada cannot sustain first class. BA selling F as J at YYC, YUL and YYZ when the 789 is used is also proof of that.

I think the same can be said for most major hubs. Asia and Australia have their share of discount carriers that substantially increase the number of destinations that may not otherwise be viable with mainline carriers. The reality is those routes would not exist were it not for demographics, and tourism. But catchment is a huge factor when it comes to feeder hubs.

And the airport just released its Critchmas video. Lots of scenes of the interior.

Reduction of cargo from 3x weekly to 2x weekly.

I think the need of cramming more Y seat onto a plane due to frequency cap might be another reason. There are just so much demand for Y for some of those TPAC flights...

Haha technically yes. But BC has more Chinese frequencies than everyone else combined with more coming so I think we'll be ok. You're welcome!

Anyone have a source for this? A quick google doesn't show anything.
