Creating models for GoogleEarth 3dBuildingLayer

Hi there... just want to share my progress at creating buildings for Porto Alegre and Novo Hamburgo... I am creating them as low poly buildings, fully textured from photos, following the GoogleEarth/3DWarehouse directives. It takes a while for them to be reviewed by Google and included at GoogleEarth, but I hope they will soon be approved.

So far, Ive created 4 buildings for Porto Alegre. (started creating them last wednesday). Hope that I will be able to create a few more till the end of the week.

I can't do that because because I wouldn't put all that detail in one REAL building........ Anyway it looks great!Lets hope thwy aprove soon!

my fifth building, Espaço CIEE, located at 3rd Perimetral Avenue, Porto Alegre. You can two of my other buildings (Mercado Publico and IPASE) at the distance, a few km away, in the right.

That looks great!I love the buildings on the avanue!I'm keeping a close eye on this.Did your buildings in the last picture get aproved yet?

Trantor Jun 16, 2009 6:28 PM

not yet. Ive heard it takes like 2-4 weeks for Google to review the buildings and include them on GE :(

bbeliko Jun 16, 2009 6:37 PM

Trantor you are too good at this, i wish i could do half of what you do with Sketchup

Austin55 Jun 16, 2009 6:41 PM

Yeah, it does take about that long and the usually deny you for the stupidest thing. But those are excellent, there just as good as most of the featured modelers. Good luck!

Trantor Jun 16, 2009 7:44 PM

@Austin: MY guess is that its hard to model for US cities, where there is already tons of featured modellers... so they will deny your model because they are certain somebody else will make the model.

but for Brazil? Ive seen some TRULY crap models featured on GoogleEarth. It seems Google´s standarts for models is set much lower when it comes to Brazil. They are eager FOR ANY MODEL AT ALL, no matter how crappy it is.

Look at the above shot of Porto Alegre. You can count the modelled buildings in one hand.

And here a shot of Porto Alegre

just too much work to do for them to be denying models for stupid reasons

please... ellaborate. In what sense it got ridiculous? Too long a wait for the review? They approve bad stuff? Lack of consistency?

I think it's time for the Google buildings to go global. We already have like every major city in the US. We need other cities from China, Mexico, Brazil, Europe, Russia, everywhere!

Nice models btw, I started to make a 3D model of Seattle but like a month after I starter they uploaded every building in the city [except for the ones under construction], so I just quit.
