This Spring/Summer 2023, with Air France being a mix of Boeing 787-9, 777-200ER & Airbus A350 on the Paris CDG - Vancouver YVR route is quite interesting✅.

Seems there were some changes to AC's transborder schedule.

YUL-DFW express to mainline A220.
YUL-ORD reduced from 4 daily E75 to 2 E75 and 1 A220.
YUL/YYZ - BNA/MSP express to mainline A220.
YYZ-ATL 1 mainline A220 frequency added.

I'm sure I might have missed a few updates.

AeroRoutes posted YVR changes a few days ago.

Wow that's a lot of new 220 flying. I wonder where the Express flying will get redeployed to?

Looks like the CTA has fined WestJet and Sunwing.

WestJet in regards to S22 for failure to compensate pax in due time, and Sunwing for their meltdown this past Christmas and failure to communicate info to pax in a timely manner.

Both sums are peanuts for airlines making millions in revenue, but still, glad to see the CTA acting in the interest of passengers, as it should.

Still not quite 70% of pre pandemic levels, but better than anticipated.

This year, the addition of WestJet service to Calgary and Edmonton should help, and I am anticipating Porter adding jet service to Pearson (while maintaining their existing flights to Billy Bishop and to Ottawa).

The main unknown is what WestJet has in mind for the future. Calgary and Edmonton are most welcome, but it seems like they are winding down their service to Pearson. We do have Swoop flights to Hamilton and multiple sun destinations via SunWing, but what will happen if and when Swoop and SunWing are merged? Will they operate an expanded ULCC within Canada while maintaining the sun destinations? Lots of questions...........

Canadian North Airlines started up the Yellowknife YZF- Calgary YYC - YZF route operated by the Boeing 737 1x daily, on February 14 2023 & giving WestJet competition on it again✅.

They fill the void of Air Canada which cut the YZF- YYC in mid January.

Yes, that is the point. No need for airlines to behave in an unethical way to have an advantage in the market.

Over time I would expect the ULCC to be forced into acting like the major airlines. That is a good thing.

I was surprised to see the inaugural was on a full pax 733 instead of a combi. The company president was on the inaugural flight. Looked like a light load.

The Combis are only used on routes outside of YK. The fights from YYC and some from YEG are full passenger. The Only Combis flying out of YEG to YK are ones going up the McKenzie Valley or to Rankin Inlet.

Canadian North has a large fleet of Non-combis in YEG to service the various camps in NWT< Nunavut F Mac And Kitimat.

YOW and YUL also have Combis flights

Cheers.

well here's a interesting tidbit. Talking with a friend that lives in Copenhagen now and works quite a bit in Greenland. He was mentioning Air Greenland is buying more large aircraft to start more runs to NA and Europe. They want to increase tourist traffic.

I’d assume YUL/YYZ in Canada and thats about it

esquire Feb 17, 2023 10:22 PM

^ Greenland as a mass tourism destination could be a tough sell, although mind you, Iceland was a pretty trendy place to go for a while. They might have more success doing the Icelandair thing and taking advantage of their location to run competitively-priced overseas through Greenland as a connecting point.

Obviously they think they can be the next Iceland. A whole lot more glacial melt will have to occur to make that viable.
