They only added new routes this week. Full summer schedule is coming in March.

Nice to see Moncton-Calgary 3x weekly.

I wonder if Swoop is returning this summer with Moncton-Edmonton 3x weekly too?

I don't know what Swoop's deal is now. They dropped London to Edmonton and now WestJet is replacing it.

Perhaps time for Swoop to be rebranded as WestJet.

Westjet is opening a crew base in YEG, I don't know if the Swoop base closed or not, but I would expect more mainline flying out of YEG, and less Swoop going forward.

I could see Swoop getting rolled into Sunwing once that deal is done and picking up a lot more domestic flying in the summers.

While YQR’s market is a little bit smaller than YXE surprisingly no YQR-MSP.

Will be interesting to see which of these are on the DH4…for the ones within range.

The only new Transborder route scheduled on a DH4 is YEG-SEA. Everything else is a 737.

I forgot how irritating online check-in can be. Air Canada won't even let me start ("Online check-in is unavailable for this flight at this time. Is it at least 24 hours before your scheduled departure time?" It was, yeah.

Aer Lingus lets me check in, and has a whole webpage explaining how whatever you're used to doesn't apply, you get one bag, we don't give a fuck if it's a purse or a Subway sandwich bag, or whatever else... ONE bag you can carry on. Your other "carry on" has to be checked. So how many bags would you like to check? Drop-down menu has only the option of zero :haha: So I checked in anyway, but obviously it's going to be a thing when I get there. I've one backbag like a school bookbag and one carry-on-sized hardshell.

EDIT: It worked this time. I can confirm Air Canada online check-in is vastly superior to Aer Lingus online check-in. Not only can I explicitly carry both my bags on the plane, but I checked and the drop-down menu if I did want to check one actually has that option lol AND they emailed me my boarding pass. The Aer Lingus one just opened it in a new browser window in my mail app so it's long gone.

YLW getting lots of love from WS this summer; very appropriate for the season, its target demographic and geography, and trying to push out any competitors (AC gave up, thinking more targeting Lynx, Flair, etc.)

And thank you Westjet for adding two NEW transborder destinations from YVR, not just flights to existing cities. Any increase is good, but new destinations always has more appeal than just more flights to a destination already served by 3 others.

Even if this isn't the final summer schedule, it's telling that there's no new routes out east at all yet. I am really getting the feeling AC is handing YYC to WS, and in turn WS is handing YYZ to AC. They still have significant ops at both airports no doubt, but WS's forward planning ignores YYZ in favour of the west (as they formally said they would do, it wasn't a secret their priorities, we were all just waiting to see what that would look like. I'm glad not every addition is at YYC, the love was spread fairly between western cities

Yes, YYC-BNA resumes March 23, and is currently scheduled up to 3x weekly.

Ok I figured that was plenty. Surely other US destinations in the US are in higher demand than BNA from Vancouver?

Does YYC now have more transborder destinations than YVR?

I think this had been the case for a long time. YYC have more destination, but YVR have more frequency.

Would this still be true if WestJet was a Vancouver based company?

Do you have any idea whats going on in regards to Swoop?

Their summer schedule is still relatively empty given the fact they have 16 aircraft. It also seems like they are severely trimming down or cutting the YEG base given WestJet's re-expansion at YEG

Most probably not, but that doesn’t change the fact that YYC has more trans border destinations than YVR, just an observation.

Emirates SkyCargo Signs New Deal With Air Canada Cargo

Quote:

Emirates SkyCargo and Air Canada Cargo have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for greater cooperation on their cargo services. The deal, which is still subject to regulatory approvals, will give the carriers access to each other’s extensive distribution networks.

As part of the agreement, the two carriers will expand their cargo interline options. This will increase cargo capacity and offer an extended network reach, ultimately bringing more benefits to their worldwide freight customers.

Under the agreement, Emirates SkyCargo will be able to make use of hold capacity on Air Canada’s passenger aircraft, as well as the carrier’s dedicated fleet of eight Boeing 767-300F freighter aircraft. This will open up an extensive North American network to the Dubai-based carrier, including over 60 destinations in Canada alone.

For Emirates SkyCargo, the deal will mean yet further expansion of its presence in the North American market, which is already significant thanks to a similar interline agreement signed with United Cargo in September 2022.

In return, Air Canada Cargo will have access to cargo capacity on Emirates’ passenger aircraft, flying to 140 destinations worldwide, in addition to Emirates SkyCargo’s dedicated fleet of 11 Boeing 777F aircraft. In November last year, the carrier announced an order for a further five Boeing 777Fs, to be delivered over the next two years.

WestJet will be operating YEG-YQM twice weekly.

So, just to be clear Moncton/Edmonton this summer will be WestJet and not Swoop.
