This project is by the Centennial Group and will be located at the foot of Salter Street next to Bishop's Landing. It consists of two curved buildings with apartment units and a hotel, retail space, indoor winter garden, and a small public park.

I hadn't seen those first three renderings, it looks quite nice!

Here's the alternative Southwest Properties proposal which was not chosen (from AllNovaScotia.com). It "borrows" some design elements from Rowe's Wharf in Boston. Overall, I prefer the Centennial proposal:

Here is the model view... very european style building. I stayed in a U of T residence (New College I believe) that was twisted like this... shitty 70's style though, much like some parts of Dal.

Looking at these pics and models makes me very excited for this project too. I hadn't noticed the nice curves in the plans before. This is actually a very graceful project and will provide a great visual footing for the UG towers from the harbour vistas.

It's a nice, contemporary design. This project plus the UG towers will do a lot to dispel the slightly tired look that the downtown area has right now.

The other thing I like about this building is how it would introduce a small, enclosed park on the waterfront. This is the way to do it. Some people wanted the whole site to be a park but large open spaces are unsuitable for the waterfront. This project will also enclose the little plaza created by Salter's Gate.

Something else to mention is that, while the 150 m tower component of the development was removed (again, thank you Heritage Trust for protecting us from anything interesting or innovative), it or some other "landmark" could be proposed in the future for the park area.

^ Agreed about the park. It's interesting to see the ways developers are conforming with the City's requirements for public amenity in waterfront developments. Hopefully this project will really enhance the Harbourwalk; as it is right now, the parking lot at the end of Salter is a mental barrier between the action at the north of the boardwalk and the places to the south.

When do you think this development will start up?

Whatever happened to that other waterfront development?

Queenslanding? My understanding its being held up by government. Shame as that development in my opinion would have the greatest impact to the waterfront as well as meet the need for office, residential and hotel down town. Go Halifax in its anti development........

Centennial Project Finally Going Foreward
 

I understand that the parking lot operator has informed the monthly renters that they will soon be out of a place to park, implying that the Centennial Group is starting.

REALLY! That's the most exciting thing I've heard in quite a while. I've always loved this project and I hate walking down on the water all the time, and seeing this empty lot, knowing what could be here.
Can't wait for a crane!

Good news. It's been several years since Bishop's Landing was built and since then not much has happened on the waterfront. This is a particularly large empty site in a part of town that has way too many surface lots.

Another big plus for this development is that this is the last part of the boardwalk to be improved. I assume they're installing wooden boardwalk, so when it's complete it will be part of a continuous path from around Pier 21 all the way to the casino at the other end. I've heard claims that Halifax currently has the "longest continuous boardwalk in the world", but I doubt it's true because of the current gap in the middle!

This is awesome news!!! That makes three new buildings in that section of downtown (pending approval for one); this, UG and "The Alexander".

Excellent (in Mr. Burns voice)... the sooner that gap is filled the better.

Do you think it will start up before the end of the summer?

It's hotel and apartments, so I could see them starting immediately once the cars are gone. I wonder what the timeline is for boardwalk improvements and how they will route things in the meantime?

I think this development will really pull the area together. A few years ago if you looked down Salter St from Barrington all you saw was parking lots basically. Once this development's done there will be buildings all the way down to the water.

I wonder if any design adjustments have been made to it. Not that it really needs it judging from the renderings.

I'm really glad to hear that this might start this summer. I'm sick of looking at that parking lot sitting on one of the most prime properties in the entire city.

If memory serves this parking lot has a restaurant on it somewheres. I wonder if this will disappear for good, relocate or reopen in new building?

Help me out here. This is in the parking lot immediately adjacent and north of Bishops Landing, or the parking lot upon which the Waterfront Warehouse sits? Or both?
