I think it's pretty much up to the city council since it's city owned land and seems like they are mostly in favor of it. This parcel has been immersed in all sorts of drama for years with scandal with the former CCDC head, my guess is even the city wants this developed soon. But this IS San Diego, so I won't rest easy until it breaks ground :).

In case you're following the Chargers stadium proposal in East Village: At 10 am TODAY in the Central Library there will be a presentation of an alternative. According to this article, it would include space for housing, offices, retail/restaurants, and a flexible meeting space that could be used for conventions, academic classrooms, and community events.

It's a heck of a lot better than an empty stadium, unwanted convention center anex, and walling off Barrio Logan and other disadvantaged from downtown. It's also a bigger economic engine, promoting affordable housing and higher paying 21st century jobs over minimum wage concession stand workers, while not giving a fat tax break to a billionaire. :tup:

Umm the same could be said about Spanos - why should a billionaire football owner be dictating how the city solves our convention center issues. Does Spanos and the Chargers have some expertise in the convention center industry that we don't know about? Their joke of a plan gives no specifics on how the convention center would be operated or even details on the design specifics. It was thrown-on to this shitty plan as a gimmick to up his chances of building his tax-subsidized football stadium Downtown. I can't wait to see this go down in flames in November. It's pretty funny that you try and paint Quigley as some greedy sociopath, yet you presumably support Spanos, one of the greediest sociopaths around lol

Never going to happen. If the chargers stadium doesn't go there it will still be a bus yard for a decade or more. Why not put that 20+ million dollar pedestrian bridge to use.

The cranes in the background of the picture are for Ballpark Village (three) and Alexan East Village (one with American Flag).

I was reading a Times of SD article with Doug Manchester talking about downtown re-development, and this quote jumped out:

"Of course, there is always more work that needs to be done. We need to have the Civic Plaza and Civic Theatre redeveloped, Horton plaza reimagined, and new city council offices 750-feet tall."

City council offices 750 feet tall? Is this a reference to breaking the height limit? If so, why would it have been said in relation to city council offices? As far as I know there is no current proposals or plans to re-build the city administration offices. Also, the city admin offices are in central downtown, I would think a 750 footer would need to be in the far corner of East Village, if at all, due to further from the airport. Anyway, it's probably just Manchester talking out of his a**, but thought I'd post to see if anyone has heard anything about officials starting to explore >500 ft towers and/or plans for a new building for city offices?

Notice he is talking about a 40-year timeframe. Still, can't fault Manchester for having some vision (of which we could use more of here in SD)

I suspect Manchester is referring to a potential redevelopment of Civic Center Plaza and a VERY potential redevelopment of the SD Int. Airport and/or the FAA height limits.

Pie in the sky? Maybe. A lot can happen in 40.

That 2nd Pinnacle tower is of special note since I believe it is supposed to be a condominium tower, not rentals. Of course, they could pull a Vantage Pointe and do a complete 180. Should help to clean up that area quite a bit.
