BEIJING | CITIC Tower | 528 M | 109 FLOORS

The design by TFP Farrells, BIAD, ARUP and MVA will be the tallest building in Beijing. The new ‘Z15’ Tower, located in the east of Beijing at the heart of the new CBD extension, will be over 120 storeys, and more than 500m high. As part of this 30-hectare masterplan at the core of this district, the design incorporates 2,000,000m2 of office space, six-star hotels, luxury service apartments and high-end retail that connects to the existing metro station and adjacent shopping mall. This 300,000m2 tower includes Grade-A office space over 60 floors; 20 floors of serviced apartments, and an approx. 300-key / 20-storey hotel, complete with state-of- the-art facilities. The tower’s smooth contemporary vertical curve gives the building an elegant expression that will assist in maximizing the floor area at the top and provide structural stability at the tower’s base. Z15 will utilize the latest sustainable technology, materials and engineering concepts. Situated close to the new CCTV Headquarters and China WTC 3, Z15 will become an international iconic landmark of China’s future.

FANTASTIC!!!

MolsonExport Jun 8, 2011 1:17 PM

Wow, there's a signature building.

Travis007 Jun 8, 2011 2:17 PM

I like it. Simple, sleek, and elegant. Reminds me of a massing inverse of HK's ICC.

Tom In Chicago Jun 8, 2011 5:55 PM

neat. . .

. . .

FrancoRey Jun 8, 2011 6:53 PM

Let's hope they can get this one done right. Too many nice structures in China have been ruined by sub-par cladding and glass. Time will tell!

caltrane74 Jun 8, 2011 8:06 PM

Looks awesome....

I'm looking forward to this one.

Mike K. Mar 27, 2012 6:15 PM

We've received reports that this tower is now under construction, or at least the foundation is being worked on. Does anyone have any updates?

shakman Mar 27, 2012 6:34 PM

If I stare at this proposal long enough, I might like it.

It's not yet, it's still all dirt with no machines there.

MolsonExport Mar 28, 2012 12:33 AM

Shame. Hope it goes forward...really one of the better bunch out of the Asian supertalls (proposed and existing)

It's shaped like the XBOX 360

NYC GUY Oct 4, 2012 12:54 AM

I like this one better than Shanghai tower the cladding on shanghai tower isn't that great in my opinion.

Here is a pic of the construction site I was able to snag while at a meeting in the Sofitel hotel in the CBD of Beijing. It's right across the street from the construction site.

Very clean construction site.

Design-mind Apr 24, 2013 9:16 PM

Wow a lot has been done between those two posts, which are less than a month apart!

lakegz Apr 25, 2013 12:17 AM

I walk by here about once a week. I'll take some photos if I can get some clear shots. Hope you don't mind a camera phone.

Hey even if you drew the updates it would be better than no updates at all. Would love some updates! Thanks in advance!

MolsonExport Apr 25, 2013 2:04 PM

what a gigantic basin/bathtub. what else is slated for the site?

Ed007Toronto Apr 25, 2013 6:44 PM

Yes please to weekly updates.

NERVA May 12, 2013 10:47 PM

Will be in Beijing this week (vacation in PRC from May 16th - 25th). I'll try to get to the construction site and take some pic's.

Check the first post. There's going to be 4-5 other smaller towers.

lakegz May 24, 2013 3:15 PM

Walked by the sight today and a nice vantage point I noticed during the winter has been covered up by the returning foliage. So this was the best shot I could get as I walked by.

Design-mind May 24, 2013 7:28 PM

Thank-you. The update is just fine. Looks like they took one crane down, unless it is hiding behind the crane in the foreground. The last picture shows two cranes on the poured foundation behind the second block of construction housing. The new picture only shows one(furthest crane from vantage point).

.....and inhumanly scaled when you're trying to get around the city :-( :(

Design-mind May 30, 2013 5:03 PM

Having this overview helps make sense of what is happening where.

The Chinese fuck every interesting construction site by building a high steel wall around it.

The North One Jun 6, 2013 5:12 PM

This thing is fugly as shit, I don't get what you guys see in this.

ThatOneGuy Jun 7, 2013 12:59 AM

It would make more sense to ask why you don't like it than to ask people why they like this design, which is pretty much unanimously seen as beautiful.

Does anybody know where the actual Z15 tower will come on this site?

And this view point would be a nice location for a project webcam...

Surrealplaces Jun 14, 2013 4:35 PM

These types of interchanges are standard along the 2nd and 3rd ring roads in Beijing.

If my memory serves me right from the posters I saw on the site, it is right at the cluster of four cranes.
