So much money spent on something so... unremarkable really. The base is interesting.

Sorry - I feel like I only talk smack about this thing.

the cantilever is cool from the ground view.

the crown is still a bit of a mystery to anticipate.

nordstrom's has an odd mix of either expensive or cheap clothes.

aaaand that's all i got.

No thanks, just don't wanna see a boxy tower go to 2000 feet.

Excel tower. I would re-name it that, because the design is basically an afterthought. Designed via Excel probably.

It's too bad it's not as impressive as that sexy shaft Gary was caught stroking in his office 5 years ago:

^This is the first time I've seen this "sexy shaft" from 5 years ago; at least I don't recall seeing it before. Indeed, this would have been a much more interesting design.

I don't strongly dislike the CPT's boring design, but do wish that the architects had at least picked a more unique color than sky blue.

gramsjdg Jan 23, 2020 5:17 PM

If we're lucky he will use this design for one of his other upcoming NYC projects. Although developers seem to have a habit (with a couple exceptions) of not using previous designs even if they haven't been built. A shame really.

Zerton Jan 23, 2020 5:50 PM

Yeah, the original design was very graceful and contextual. That's why I don't really blame the architect (Adrian Smith, who also deisgned Burj Khalifa) - this was clearly value engineering per the developer. I imagine this is very depressing for the firm.

Visionist Jan 23, 2020 6:46 PM

The sexy shaft design was also 1550' high I remember. It had an open sky garden at the top with miniature trees, although that would hardly have been practical in reality. I think the garden was a tenant amenity rather than a private penthouse perk. Broo-Hoo to that I wouldn't wanna share my garden with those folks who only paid 40 million for their apartment! :superwhip

Extell still have their supersite in assembly further down the island near the theater district. Would be nice to see something inspired this time.

Yes, it was Gary's first love. Didn't even need a spire.
