I personally never thought/said that YUL offered more service to the Middle East than YYZ. For that region, YUL has carriers that aren't present anywhere else in Canada just like YYZ with Egyptair, El Al, etc. It's all about population diversity. Montreal has a bigger population of North African origin, so obviously some carriers like RAM, Air Algérie, Royal Jordanian and Syphax (maybe Tunisair eventually) fly out of YUL. Same with YYZ and Pakistan International, Toronto has a strong pakistani/indian population, so a fly route to Islamabad is logical. Also, Toronto is a world-class business city so links with Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai are necessary.

Included YUL's juillet numbers...:) Incidentally, YUL really rebounding now, grew more than YYC for first time in quite a while.

Apparently Quantas has now applied to stretch this short term application into year round direct flights from Sydney on a 747.

The growth occurring and upcoming at YVR is simply staggering. I wonder if all this growth will trigger the construction of the third terminal called for in the long term plan.

When they build the third terminal (fourth if you count the south terminal), I do like the idea of the Northeast (I or TB) terminal, but they will likely still need to add a people mover to keep passenger transfer times to/from the Domestic terminal reasonable. I really like the the idea of a west satellite terminal with an underground people mover :cheers:

It's great that it is starting up again, though this is certainly not the first time they've tried to compete on the route. This time, at least, it will be direct which will make it more competitive.

This does not affect most people here but could effect numbers altough small at 3 southern airports, and will affect some charter and cargo flights.

It was a stop at SFO. AC used to stop at HNL. He likely meant "non-stop" YVR-SYD.

Incredible results.

Total Passengers: 2,086,481 (+8.0%)

Domestic: 1,079,507 +8.2%
International (incl TB): 1,006,974 +7.7
Transborder: 510,057 +9.1%

YTD: 13,238,277 (+8.1%)

First month overall smashing through 2 million.
First month domestic smashing through 1 million.
First month international (incl TB) smashing through 1 million.
First month transborder smashing through half a million.
Best month ever in each category except miscellaneous int'l of course.

Increase in pax compared to Aug 2013 - this really shows the huge growth:

YTD just shy of 1,000,000 more pax than 2013 as well... thought I would throw that in.
