Looks like council approved Civic Concourse Golden Hall as the site for this years winter homeless shelter, pending the fiscal impacts of breaching the contracts the city already has in place with other companies and agencies.

I went to the meetings this week, and shared my view on the issue to the council. At times it felt like a mix of The People's Court and Jerry Springer. What a joke. When is this city going to get it's act together and work together toward a viable PERMANENT solution to the problem?

I love looking up old maps of San Diego and seeing how much the topography has changed!

Seeing these pictures makes me want to go to Presidio Park to the Historical Society Museum...

I love that park.

Arial Suites in Little Italy

From the same developer of Allegro Tower (bright red stip of LED lighting that glows up and down the tower) a new tower is being proposed across the street from Allegro.....Arial Suites is going under design review (I guess redesign review since the design has changed significantly).

What are your thoughts?

That seems like a nice looking building. Given the circumstances (economy, housing market, etc), I would be surprised if it actually got off the ground anytime soon though.

It's a good looking building...

spoonman Nov 3, 2010 1:52 AM

pretty plain, but not ugly and it does fit the "neighborhood"

SDfan Nov 3, 2010 3:45 AM

I like it. Too bad its going to block the whales...

Long ago, I use to live one block from the proposed building. I don't think it looks bad, perhaps impressive. Only curious thing is the fin on top... it appears to be too brick-like for my tastes.

I'll take the building over a surface parking lot even if it covered up the whales. :P

I do like how the new building appears to have a whale painted one side to make up for it. :P

Actually the brick work is what attracted my eyes the most. I love it! haha.

Did anyone else catch in the report that the neon-green outline on the fin and up and down the side of the building is up for debate and that the developer is still under violation for the neon-red line on Allegro (their other project)? :haha:

I also found it interesting that the building seems to be facing east and not west, like most other projects. It would be nice to see a fin not facing the bay for once, although it will look a bit odd when compared to the other towers (Sapphire, Bayside, Grande, etc.).

What's the light in violation of? It adds some nice color to the skyline...

Horton Plaza Make-Over

...not what I was expecting...

Urbanize_It Nov 3, 2010 6:08 PM

Does anyone else find it interesting that they are under review to make the building larger… much larger. Moves like this, and the Equity purchase of Vantage Pointe, make me think that the downtown cycle could be on an upswing… maybe?

Derek Nov 3, 2010 7:15 PM

I definitely like that park idea...

HurricaneHugo Nov 4, 2010 12:16 AM

I like the idea but it better not look like the rendering!

I remember when they planned an office/residential tower at the Sam Goody building. :(

Also when they planned the Intercontinental Hotel tower at 400ft at the very small surface parking lot at the south end. :(

Maybe add a couple of small shops/restaurants and make the south portion of the space a dining area?
