Aura

Yeah, the city didn't enjoy the idea of a 75 storey tower on that corner. My guess is that it'll be built in a couple years with approx. 55-60 stories. I live on this block and I'm pretty happy about this actually. It just means there'll be less overshadowing. Also, it looks as though the developers could be looking to build another smaller tower next to Aura. I read something about that in a report at one point. Who knows.

People on the UT forum are suggesting setbacks as the tower rises...to offset a particularly bad shadow

Toronto is so height-phobic...I hope its height is not reduced

What's up?

Trump, Four Seasons, Shangri-La, 1 Bloor – been on the radar screen for quite some time, only Ritz under construction.

And what happened to the Signature tower?

Is'nt Signature a Vison, not a proposal?

lobbby Jul 26, 2007 8:43 PM

No - it’s a proposal - or at least it was a proposal. Does anyone know when and why it was removed from the "Proposed" list? It doesn’t show up anywhere now not in the “Stale Proposals”, the “Cancelled”, the “Vision” sections or anywhere else.

Don't forget RBC and Bay Adelaide U/C!!!

Signature Tower

Sorry, you were right - it was moved to the "Vision" section. I guess another one bites the dust. :(

caltrane74 Jul 26, 2007 11:52 PM

It hasn't bit the dust. Signature Tower is the last project in cityplace..so its start is at least 3 - 4 Years away.

RBC Ritz & BA moving like gangbusters!!!!

Four Seasons, Shangri-La and the new 1 Bloor have not been around for a while. I'm not sure how fast you expect projects to move forward, but so far all indications are they'll be starting work soon (except for 1 Bloor which hasn't entered sales).

The Signature Tower was at one time talked of being developed before CityPlace started work on their lands on the west side of Spadina, but it was decided to leave it till the last phase of the project. It's going where the sales centre is, but not until the individual projects have progressed far enough - projects such as Montage, Luna, Parade, and a couple more future phases. Expect to see it in sales in a couple of years.

then it should be a piece of cake for you to name ten proposals that were rejected by council over the past 5 years

WhipperSnapper Jul 27, 2007 4:12 AM

Aura at 700 feet appears even fatter than its shorter stalky sisters - don't let some artistic impressions fool you. I'd gladly lose 50 to 100 feet (not necessarily the case) for a much better looking tower

caltrane74 Jul 27, 2007 1:46 PM

240 Meters sounds nice. It could end up being the Rockafeller centre of Toronto?

FAT AND TALL!

Who said anything about council height rejections...I certainly didn't....Toronto height-phobia is the result of a lot of factors....including developers and Torontonians themselves...thats way we have a skyline of primarily 20-30 story office towers (with the exception of a few buildings in the cbd)

Signature Tower

A buddy of mine from University works construction part-time on the Concord Adex CityPlace project. He told me that Signature Tower is still being proposed, its going to be the final tower to go up in the project.

I think its quite clear something tall will be built on the sales centre site but probably not the same Signature Tower we've all shared a few laughs about. However the notion that some part-time construction worker would know the future plans for Cityplace is a tad ridiculous. I doubt the general contractor hired by Concord Adex to hire the dozens sub-contractors needed to get the building built on time and budget would have the foggiest idea (not that he would care to know in any regard)

It's will remain a vison (at least for me) until I see some sort of confirmation on Concord's intentions regarding 'the phallus' that satisfies me

St. Michael's College Redevelopment

http://www.toronto.ca/planning/stjoseph.htm

Some updates:

The prefered development concept is now for two towers with street-wall buildings north of the church and extension of the open space north of the church.

Development concept includes:

Street-wall Buildings
Three-storey street-wall buildings along Bay Street and St. Mary Street, and a row of townhouses north of Cloverhill Wing. Use of roof for amenity space.
St. Mary Street built form could be more of a domestic feel with raised landscape beds and a few steps up from street to residential units.
Bay Street built form could include non-residential uses and with entrances flush with sidewalk. Materials include stone and wood trim.

Towers
Proposed west tower (45 storeys) south of St. Mary Street.
Proposed east tower (55 storeys) on the Bay Street frontage.
Both towers have 750 square metre floor plates and are set behind street-wall buildings.
East tower could have a high, transparent ground floor to permit views between the park to the south and the proposed courtyard area to the north of the tower as well as from Bay Street.
Towers could be light via the use of glass.

Open Space
Open space extended to the north of Cloverhill Wing. A green wall feature could be incorporated into the base of the east tower’s south elevation.
Opportunity for a green feature along the base of the west tower’s west elevation facing St. Michael’s playing field.
Pedestrian movements through new open spaces and an entrance along the Bay Street frontage.

Access Options
Vehicular access from St. Mary Street to internal courtyard with a high quality ground treatment (e.g. granite).
Access point to St. Joseph Street using the existing ceremonial driveway in front of St. Basil’s Church. This access point could be incorporated into westerly edge of open space to screen it from Bay Street. Conceptual at this point, detailed design not done.

Other interesting points

The proposed towers are approximately 40 metres apart. Tower footprints are off-set to help maintain views from buildings.
Green roofs will be considered in conjunction with the use of the roof space for amenity areas.
