Quite shocking this is in real terms the tallest building in NYC. NYC!!

If it vanished tomorrow very few would miss it. Only garnering attention due to his height.

Don't get too upset. ;)

Many of our newer posters...and, raising my own hand declaring guilty as charged on cautious behalf of some of the veterans here (They know who they are; I do not)...tend to succumb to the same phenomenon.

In other words, how many of us long-term posters have lamented over the looks of a "potentially iconic" tower at least a bit more than halfway through its construction? IMHO there's a certain hardwired impatience when it comes to taking the time to extrapolate from a certain point a final outcome, even quite early in the superstructure's development.

For example: On this thread, take a look at the left side of the first model(?) pic at post 7111. How many of us have been complaining about this tower lacking anything special when all I saw--admittedly after several close looks--are some of the most subtle setbacking examples I've ever seen??

It gives 3HB/†Girasol's latest--and hopefully--last render a run for the money.

Agreed! So disappointing. In NYC, you expect SO much better than this! How is it even POSSIBLE that this tower, on Billionaire's Row, looks like it was VALUE ENGINEERED! :yuck:

This is a 3 billion dollar tower. Nothing value engineered about it. Just because the design might be considered bland relative to its stunning neighbors like 220 CPS and 111 W 57th does not mean its value engineered.

I personally love this building, I think it looks fine and is nearly half a kilometer tall.

chris08876 Mar 6, 2020 8:00 PM

Step in the right direction. Hopefully the East Midtown Rezoning yields a future mega tall. I mean, I'm not complaining, we've had a really good run and a lot of promise, but man... I'd really like that signature tower that would put us in the 600m club yah know.

Have to agree. Another cheap looking value engineered scar on the skyline. Yawn.

I think everyone on this thread knows what it cost. That’s not the point. It LOOKS like it was value engineered.

What looks value-engineered? Be specific.

Certainly not the facade. Not Nordstrom. Not the residences. Not the cantilever. So what?

The only evidence of v-e is they passed on the spire.

I like the cladding also: the chamfered glass reflects long thin lines of light from the sun. Nice.
