There were no changes in the top 10 from last year. Ada County surpassed 400,000 in population! Canyon County should have over 200,000 people by 2014 and Kootenai County should have 150,000 people by 2015.

It looks like the recession never really affected Idaho's growth other than slowing it down a bit. I am getting used to the slow pace of growth but I would have no problem going back to the pre recession growth either.

The only big change since last year was Eagle hitting 20,000 residents.

Boise, Meridian, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Eagle, Kuna, and Hayden all grew more than 1.5% last year.

eagle is poised to really grow if the avimor development grows as planned.

I believe Avimor is kinda dead. M3 is the mega development still on the books.

2012 Metro & Micro Area estimates came out last week. Here are the numbers for Idaho's Metros & Micros:

Latah County moved ahead of Madison County over the past year. Other than that there were no changes in rankings in the largest counties.

If current rates continue, Ada County will have 450,000 people by 2018, Canyon County will have 200,000 people by 2015, Kootenai County will have 150,000 people by 2018, and Bonneville County will have 110,000 people by 2016.

For Metro & Micro Areas, Sandpoint was finally named a Micro Area this year and has 40,476 in its Micro Area.

Ammon surpassed Chubbuck in population over the last year. Meridian is catching up and should overtake Nampa in population in a few years. Idaho Falls is slowly distancing itself from Pocatello in population.

Really wanting to see Caldwell get into the number 4 spot. How long until Eagle or Kuna fills out the big 5...

It looks like Twin Falls may make it to the 50,000 mark by 2020 which would make it its own Metro area. I've always imagined the rim of the Snake River would be a great area for some high rises :cheers:

I actually expect that to happen either next year or in 2017. Metros are contiguous populations of 50,000 or more. The city of Twin Falls, along with neighboring Kimberly, have over 49,000 residents already...(for example, the city of Coeur d'Alene has less than 50,000 residents, but combined with the neighboring cities of Post Falls, Hayden, Dalton Gardens, Fernan, and Huetter, the area has been a metro for over 10 years now).

This thread should be renamed "Idaho Census Thread" or something similar since data has been continuously updated.

sure seems like Boise's population growth has slowed dramatically over the last 15 years. I wonder if that's because most of the growth has been in the suburbs, or if there's not much room left within the Boise city limits, but the amount of construction in the city (especially Harris Ranch and downtown) seems to suggest that Boise is still growing.

I think it's safe to assume that Boise's growth in past decades was largely dependent on urban sprawl. I hope the trend of redevelopment in the urban core and infill of existing neighborhoods continue. Eventually as Boise becomes more dense, we'll start to see taller buildings downtown.

The Boise Metro was 20th fastest growing metro (by percentage) in the past year. Meridian was I believe the 7th fastest growing city in the country. Population increase was much stronger from 2013-2014 than 2012-2013 in the entire area. I think we're going to see pre 2008 growth rates sooner than later.
